Not enough power going to the motherboard and graphics card eh?

Well my psu is a 500 watt arctic cooling psu and i know its a crap brand.
My pc screen goes blank and the sound distorts at random times, usually within 30 mins of booting up.
Im pretty sure its the psu?
If it is, watt one would you reccomend haha?
Im thinking Corsair vx 450 watt myself

Re: Not enough power going to the motherboard and graphics card eh?

I think you would be fine with a 450watt decent unit. I'm not sure what is the best one to choose at the moment but, There was a thread here a little while ago about a PSU in this power range.

This is one thread that might help you choose http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-hardwa...nd-me-psu.html

    Full spec's please

Oh and I think you mean "Artic Power" which is nothing to do with Arctic Cooling apart from sounding similar to confuse people into mistaking them.

OK, to start with at £54 the vx450w is a bit over priced these days, still a good unit though and there's not much in the 450w range now.

For £58 the new sliverstone strider modular 500w is worth a look http://www.scan.co.uk/products/500w-...lus-bronze-psu
For £56 the Be Quiet Pure power 530w http://www.ebuyer.com/product/190751
For £48 the silverpower 500w (made by seasonic) http://www.scan.co.uk/products/500w-...0mm-fan-atx12v

This Antec PSU is made by Seasonic:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/520w-...ps12v-v291-psu

In fact this PSU would do the job too and is also made by Seasonic:

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/p...U-400CXUK.html

You can also get cashback from TopCashBack and Quidco on the purchase.

Re: Not enough power going to the motherboard and graphics card eh?

    oem = Seasonic ftw

I wouldn't buy anything less than
    1x 2+6pin PCIe
    1x 6pin PCIe
    ie - silverpower 500W

Antec gamer 520W looks good with
    2x 2+6pin PCIe
    1x 6pin PCIe

Seems daft to buy a PSU with gaming in mind and not have PCIe connectors spare for future use.

Re: Not enough power going to the motherboard and graphics card eh?

    Umm define future use?
We're starting to see the power requirements drop not go up (except for nvidia's efforts, butt again only at the top end) two 6+2pin is going to be far more useful, I don't think there are any cards that only require one additional power connector and can do 3 way sli/crossfire
And there's not much use for a 2 plug card and a 1 plug to be used together.
Two or Four is far better than Three

Maybe the dual GF110 card will need three PCI-E power connectors.

The Asus Ares already requires 3 PCIe connectors as 2x8pin + 1x6pin.

CATare you sure that CORSAIR PSU would do the job as the the graphics card reccomends the 500W and my currecnt 500w (less than average brand) doesnt do the job as my pc just crashed there now when i turned v sync off to get 100 fps on Left 4 dead 2 (highest setting) and i think my graphics card wasnt getting enough power

Like Pob said you should be fine. The CX400W is actually based on the VX450W AFAIK.
