Just bought a GTX 580 from Novatech

I ordered a Novatech GTX 580 for £399 from Novatech yesterday and it arrived today. The card turned out to be a PNY XLR8 Performance Edition which i'm fine with but the box looks aged and worn with no cellophane and a peice of white tape as some sort of seal. Inside the box is the card which came inside an anti-static bag that had obviously been re-sealed along with Drivers Disk, Mini HDMI adapter,1 Molex adapter and a simple quick start guide. Isn't there supposed to be more than this, at least a 2nd Molex adaptor?

After googling the card I noticed that it comes with fancy stickers on the cooler (the one i have is just black and no stickers) and a games bundle. And a new one is clearly cellophane wrapped just like every other card I've bought. My feeling is i have been given a refurb or return I can't even try the card out at the moment and as it's a Christmas present I doubt i would have the time to return it for another one.

As anyone else had experience of Novatech Cards, Would it be worth me returning it or should I just cross my fingers and hope for the best? Have to say i'm not happy though £399 is allot of money and i expected a brand new sealed card.

What was the card advertised as coming with? (The Novatech one, not the PNY one).

Re: Just bought a GTX 580 from Novatech

You placed an order for an unbranded/unknown brand/Novatech own brand GTX580 which is essentially what you received regardless of the packaging it came in.

Just because it happens to come in a PNY box, even have PNY serials (does it?), it does not mean you go looking at what comes with a PNY card because that is not what was advertised.

The warranty will all be with Novatech, whether you can register with PNY for their warranty is a bonus.

There is a good reason why own brand cards tend to be cheaper (in Novatech's case more than £50 cheaper)

Advertised with nothing, infact the picture shows a Palit card.

This is the card I ordered http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/p...h/nov-580.html

And this is what i got minus the stickers http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1536m...mHDMI/DL+DVI-I

I'm not bothered about the game bundle i was just pointing out these cards come with a bundle, My issue is it looks like a return or refurb and i thought i was buying a brand new sealed card. I am worried in case it was returned under DSR because it was a poor clocker for example. I would have been happy with the card i have if it was sealed and looked new.

Can you point out in the add where it states that because i can't find it?

It does have PNY serials and I believe if it's a PNY card then it should come in a sealed PNY box if it's being sold as New.

It's not £50 cheaper, It's only £23 cheaper than Scan and you can find these cards in a few places for £399. I bought from Novatech before so i trusted them.

Query it with them and then say you'll return it if you're not happy. You have 7 days due to seller regs (?). I would expect it to be new at least!

Re: Just bought a GTX 580 from Novatech

I contacted Novatech and they got back to me with "I apologise for your problems. I cannot check today as the warehouse is closed. However I can check on Monday and contact you directly then"

The problem with returning the card is i doubt i'll get a replacement this side of Christmas

I'm going to try the card out and see how it performs hopefully it will be OK, even if it is it still doesn't look like a new card.

Having just followed your links above, it's currently £46 cheaper than Scan. I've always assumed that Novatech buy rebated stock form disties to market as their own brand which is why they can often sell substantialy cheaper (i.e. > 10% in this case). So potentially this is a brand new card that's had its packaging damaged in transit, for example.

On the other hand, yes, it could be a customer return, and it's either been checked at novatech to confirm that it's fully operational then restocked (which would be slightly dubious practice IMO) or it's been stocked for their ebay store and issued to you in error. Either way, the correct action to take is to contact them and query it - which you've already done
