Get something small and lightweight. I am sure that waiting a few more minutes for your videos to encode would be better that lugging around extra weight.

The less you carry the more mobile you will be!

    True good point :-)

Would dual core be ok tho for watching 1080p video footage from my camrcorder, or am I going to need quad core ?

A dual core will be fine as long as the IGP can decode the video.

The Toshiba Portege R700-15R is worth considering IMHO:

OTH,an 11.6" or 12" Intel CULV or AMD Zacate or Athlon based laptop would be smaller but have less processing power.

The problem with the Intel CULV based laptops is that many have a poor IGP which hampers HD video decoding whereas the AMD Athlon based laptops have poorer battery life but are better at HD video decoding.

I would get a satellite R630-13T if I was you.

Main difference is no fingerprint reader afaik, it's a better laptop tbh, and cheaper.

But when you compare that laptop to this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Dell-Studio-15...item45f7cea7db

You seem to get a lot more for the money

    More to lug around too!

Also, the Portege R630 and R700 have a reinforced frame too.

Kinder thinking put my laptop in my suitcase. and can use my Dell streak tablet around the airports etc. am in Thailand for 33 days in the same bungalow so the laptop will be stationary while I am there.

Just doesnt seem to make sence to me to loose out on much better specs just because of weight

Which will then go into the hold and probably get damaged as these are consumer grade laptops with the appropriate build and very little screen reinforcement. My idea of fun is not taking the kitchen sink with me though and overpacking.

It makes less sense to take two computers with you when one will do the job of both of them and it also makes you more of a target for thieves too.

On top of this all the computing gear counts towards your weight allowance. What about the fact you may want to get some stuff in Thailand too??

Anyway,it seems you can get the version of the R700 with a 2.4GHZ Core i3 for the same price:

The R630 looks similar and cheaper though.
