    Sigh....no surprises here mate

    Just an example:

Best Budget CPU goes to the:

    Intel Pentium G6950

I fail to see this being a "budget" chip based on 3 key points:

    1. The need for a decent after market cooler, motherboard, and PSU (okay there is technically 3 there)
    2. Basing its abilitly on its potential rather than its merits
    3. Dual core anyone?

Re: Bit-tech best hardware of 2010

The cooler is interesting, if a bit insane. If they adapted it from cooling aquariums to something a bit more small scale it'd probably be cheaper, smaller, less noisy, use less power and easier to install.

Still, if you could install it through a wall to remove noise I'd actually rate it as not unreasonable, even if I currently use a whisper quiet air cooled solution.

Re: Bit-tech best hardware of 2010

Same reason I stopped buying it, completely biased rubbish written mostly by people (probably childish fanboys) who don't know what they're talking about. And they assume everyone is going to OC the pants off any hardware they buy.
    @Terbinator: Yep.

Yes. They are both owned by Dennis publishing.

They even say to wait for the GTX560 in their HD6950 review FFS especially when they seem to have no idea how it will perform. It is most likely to be around the same as a GTX470. If it is any faster there would be little point in getting a GTX570 then!

On top of this an HD6870 already competes with a GTX470 and is a smaller GPU then either a GF104 or GF100.

They even don't bother to consider core unlocking in their AMD CPU tests and use programmes which tend to work better for Intel processors too.

Hmm I really want to sign up just to moan about this, I shouldn't let it get to me so much really and I know it's wasted breath (or in this case, err, letters) especially considering most of the commenters seem to be Intel/Nvidia fanatics. I'd probably be better posting it on Youtube and watch as the storm brews. xD

The problem is that Custom PC and Bit-tech are widely read by many people in the UK who want to build their own PCs.

Re: Bit-tech best hardware of 2010

Wow this thread moves pretty quick.
@Cat: oh I've cringed sooo many times reading their magazines. I even bought one recently to see if it was any better and because some round-up caught my eye but it's just the same old. I mean the price you pay for a magazine that's barely thicker than a bit of toilet paper you'd expect some decent content in it! Unprofessional reviews annoy me so much, not because they affect me as it's generally obvious when it's been done right, but because they mislead other people, especially newcomers, into buying what might be a load of complete rubbish. All they're interested in is getting freebies from the companies after putting no effort in, and the companies know they will get a good review regardless of how bad their product is. Not meaning to point any fingers (plenty of people do it) but there is a certain popular Youtube reviewer who's conclusion is invariably 'great' or 'kickass' every time...

Re: Bit-tech best hardware of 2010

ATM,there seems to be no K series Core i3 CPUs. This means that unless you spend over £100 for a K series Core i5 overclocking will be limited.

I assume Bit-tech will come up with some creative excuses then.
