did you try the eject via windows?
did you try the eject via windows?
it's just the motor that's not working, the drive iwll open etc but the disks won't spin up. Have started an RMA.
Maybe be a stupid suggestion, but did you check the jumper setting?
i dont think you get jumpers on a sata drive do you?
Yeah, they were absolute pains, tbh. Very unhelpful. Took a couple of emails and a phone call to get an RMA number from them. It's a shame if mine was a rare bad experience, but it just goes to show how important it is to keep customer service levels high at all times: I've always fancied building an mITX system and they would have been my first port of call if I ever got the spare cash together to do it...
Yeah, it is definitely a shame if like you say it was just an "off day".
Mind you, I built another ITX machine last week, all components bought from Scan this time around. I think I only went to Linitx in the first place because I wanted a specific AMD motherboard that I couldn't find anywhere else, but apart from that everything else was available elsewhere.
Can you boot from the DVD drive. If you can boot from either the windows disk, or from a linux 'live' disk (like ubuntu http://www.ubuntu.com/), this would suggest a fault with windows, if not, then a hardware fault.

I definitely can't boot from it, the motor is dead. The drive will open but disks don't spin, I'm certain of this because I checked the position of the dvd and it has remained identical each time.
the rma is important but mean time just order another anyway.
I'd order 2 tbh... I always keep a few spares, cos they're dead cheap. try two diff brands... Liteon and Samsung.
then the rma can be a refund maybe?

Come on nibbler! Let's have the whole embarrassing story.
Uhhm. To be fair I wasn't utterly stupid. It was teh sata power cable, it wasn't a good fit and I was having an awfully hard time cramming it in but I thought it was in - the drive opened and the lights flashed so I assumed it was in. With another it went in easier and it reads disks.
Ideal
Was gonna say check the SATA power connector, they can sometimes be dodgy.
