price check: Unlockable athlon II x3

I have an athlon II x3 445 which unlocks to full quad core with all the 6mb l3 cache. Any ideas what it would go for if I wanted to sell? £60?

Re: price check: Unlockable athlon II x3

Tricky. First off I'm not sure if the chip would be equally unlockable on any motherboard (the supports unlocking, obviously) or if results vary from board to board. I'd personally be very wary of a buying a chip for unlocking even if the previous owner could provide CPU-Z screenshots showing the unlock, in case my mobo just didn't like it.

So personally, I wouldn't pay more for it because it unlocked. That said, I would happily pay £45 - £50 for it second hand anyway, because it's a damn good chip

I suppose on ebay you might get a couple of people bidding it up though.

Oh, and if you were thinking of selling it on these good forums, don't forget that "no profit" rule...

Re: price check: Unlockable athlon II x3

Ah that's right. Well seeing as I have a slight rep here I could sell it for original price I guess, and post CPU-Z screenshtos etc. Not going to list on ebay anyway.
Also, if it unlocks on my cheap as chips 760G MSI board I'd assume that it would unlock on most AM3 boards with the right Chipset.

Re: price check: Unlockable athlon II x3

Well I would only sell in order to get a 1055T to double my PPD. Because this is an unlocked CPU, it will not OC and I'ms cared to even try, so if I get a 1055T 95W and up the clock to 3.5 it should mroe than double my ppd

Re: price check: Unlockable athlon II x3

The Phenom II X6 when overclocked can consume quite a bit of power so even with the 95W version I would be careful with your current motherboard. I would make sure that the VRMs have some decent cooling too when overclocking.

Re: price check: Unlockable athlon II x3

How would I manage that? Is there a heatsink I can buy? Or just plenty of fans around there? I have lots of fans taking heat away from CPU area so that should help.

You can get heatsinks for the VRMs and/or point a cooling fan at them.

You could try using some RAM heatsinks such as the following:

If they're going to make a difference I'll get them next time I order from scan. Thinking very seriously about taking the plunge and getting a 95W 1055t...

Re: price check: Unlockable athlon II x3

    Little bump.
What about mobo + cpu for £110 or so
Got the cpu to 3.84GHz @ 1.45vcore and 4 cores/all the cache. I could leave cpu in socket with battery in to save settings. Think this is realistic?

This is essential, especially when oc, the vrm get astoundingly hot, and most probably the board would throttle(my Asus M4A785D-M PRO) does. I run 125w/95w 1055t both are heavy on vrm

did you get 95w x6, is it oc. With folding and the full load, the hs are a good idea. Both my 1055t(crunching wcg) are at 3.8/4.0 and not only sinked but fans directly blowing too.
