Best bet is office clearance type places that sell stock cleared form office buildings, have picked up a couple of £400+ chairs for under £100 recently. Many I looked at appeared to be in as new condition.

It is definately something to consider I suppose, but in the back of my head I can't help thinking that the chair would be riddled by the sweat an overweight office executive.

Picked this as first result on google just to make a point

http://static.desktopnexus.com/thumb...gthumbnail.jpg - Could've also been the previous owner (and that kinda thing actually happens)

Main point being - I've done exactly what Flibb said earlier and got a sick leather chair for 50 quid Just give it a good wash - job done !

In these threads, someone always mentions the Berlin from Viking Direct. I liked mine so much I bought another for work from my own wallet.

Pretty much this, I said roughly £200 as a ball park figure it can go to <£300 if its really worth it, I really want top quality stuff that will last.

Re: ~£200 to spend on Computer Chair

    Some advice more than anything.

I myself have a curved spine and as such have always had trouble finding a chair that is comfortable for prolonged use.

Firstly when buying a chair make sure that the shop states intended use. Decent office chair suppliers will indicate this either buy number of hours such as 1-2, 2-4, 4-8 or list as occasional / Casual to prolonged use.

Make sure the chair you buy is for prolonged use or 4-8 hours + use a day regardless how long you intend to use for.

Do not buy from a bespoke or made to order supplier, the last chair I bought was from Apex office supplies in Luton, while I spent some time testing chairs specifically the one I ended up ordering it was comfortable at the time but after about an hours use actually became painful to sit in for longer and was unable to return it for a refund.

If at all test instore and buy online for better protection and check returns policy in full.

Best chair I ever owned was an operators style armless blue chair my father once brought home from work they had thrown out, I stupidly threw it away when the material started to fray, I wish I had paid to have it re covered as have found nothing more comfortable since.

I’m personally just waiting for a reply from Viking to find out if the arms are removable on this chair and if they are then this will be my new one

or if you want something a little “bling” for your money there’s this one

Just a note chairs like those 2 should last several decades, if the gas piston ever fails there only about £15-20 to replace ( only ever had to do this once myself ) and when the fabric eventualy starts to go you should be able to find a local upholsterer to recover for about £30-40, depending on usage should last 5-10 years before needs a recover, the foam lasts ages but if needed can be replaced.

One word of warning, when cleaning the material on the chairs only use a dye fast cloth made damp in warm soapy water do not use anything like vanish or 1001 cleaning fluids, I used some upholstry cleaner on my last chair and the material seperated from the foam underneath and even started to melt the foam padding.

I agree with Fibb here, I got my office chair from local place that does reclaimed furniture, it's a really nice chair, the base is metal rather than plastic (you can get the base splitting on cheap chairs and the piston drops through) and it only cost me £40 which was £10 less than my other half's new office chair which she now needs to replace as it's falling apart (the seat has cracked so the front bends and one of the wheels doesn't stay in correctly as the plastic has cracked)

You aren't far off a refurbished Herman Miller Aeron, which a lot of people seem to rave about.

I tried one out in John Lewis just before Christmas, and wasn't amazed, but then I had no intention of buying one whatsoever and was more focussed on running away before the sales assistant approached.
