Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro v Stock Intel
The noise on my stock i3 cooler is starting to get on my nerves. Every time i start Photoshop it takes off and I wanted to look at something with better cooling but also better noise. How quiet is the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler compared with the stock intel cooler? Any other the recommendations? The Gelid Tranquillo maybe too expensive for me.
:help:
Re: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro v Stock Intel
The Freezer 7 pro is a very well regarded cooler. It should be fine for that CPU and should be much quieter and cooler than the rubbish stock Intel one. :)
Re: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro v Stock Intel
The CPU cooler gets louder when you start Photoshop? That may be you just exaggerating or talking about using Photoshop rather than launching it, but the vast majority of work undertaken when Photoshop starts is from the hard drive, not the CPU.
Indeed the entire process of launching Photoshop on my system peaked at 5% CPU usage on my system.

I take umbridge! ;-)
Really the only time when the cooler does not speed up is when the system is idle. I usually have a lot going on in the background. But say i rip a cd in itunes, it properly goes off. not to noisy leveld, but from a low hum to noticeable whirr....
scientific noise measurements!
Re: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro v Stock Intel
maybe try a fan controller rather than relying on the motherboard fan header
A new cpu cooler maybe quieter but it will still be ramped up to the same speeds if plugged into the fan header on the motherboard, it really shouldn't be "taking off" just ripping a cd
Re: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro v Stock Intel
The Akasa Amber 92mm fan on my cooler is running at 100%, it's not audible over the rest of the PC and it's certainly not annoying. I know the new Intel coolers can be very annoying even when not on max though. I think the 1366 i7 ones are OK but the 1156 ones are rubbish AFAIK.
Re: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro v Stock Intel
Thanks for the input people. I'll step out and get a freezer 7 pro and see where that takes me. Happy christmas!

Are you sure you're not mistaking the CPU fan for the DVD drive spinning the disc up? That's noisy, CPU fans shouldn't be when ripping a CD.

My thoughts exactly.
Intel stock coolers can get quite noisy, depends on setting the PWM correctly.
The fan should only be speeding up as the temperature increases, so a correctly setup PWM is miles better than a manual fan controller as the fan should always be running at the slowest possible speed to keep the cpu temperature with in the set range.
The one major failing for me on Asus motherboards is their rather pants PWM control, both MSi and Foxconn have far better PWM settings.
intel stock vs ACf7p, yes the ACf7p is much better however if you case has the width to take it (190mm+ width or 160mm clearance between the top of the cpu and the side panel) then have a look at the Coolermaster Hyper212+ it's only a couple of quid more and the 120mm fan is much quieter.

I think the major factor (which I omitted!) Is that I am over clocking to 3.52g. This is a normally totally stable clock but it probably means everything is running hot and causing simple processes to spin the cpu fan up more.
The noise is definitely not the dvd drive though.
Re: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro v Stock Intel
I've experienced 5-10 degrees cooler temps with the freezer pro and an e6320, e6600 and 1100t compared to their original coolers. I recommend getting one if you want a cheap but decent cooler. They cost around £15, are really quiet and easy to clean if you got a dirty room like I do. :)
Re: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro v Stock Intel
I replaced the stock Intel cooler for an Ultima 90 cooler which I think gets similar benchmarks to the Freezer 7. Well, with it my E7200 didn't get hot enough, even under load to move the thermal sensors off the bottom value (although I think IBT did). It's now being used on my 95w 1055T and although it's not easy to tell how hot it's running because no programs I know of currently support the Thuban CPUs, it seems to cool it well.

I'm surprised nobody has suggested the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 as it got alot of good reports here at one time.
