If this is going to be used for studies does this mean it will need to be portable too?

Core i3 at a decent price?
If you are going be taking it to university or whatever,i would consider the weight of the notebook too.
I would reconmend any of these:
Personally when i am picking a laptop i would go for more balanced setup than having a high end/mid-range cpu which intel geninuely makes better CPU for notebooks than amd but with a crappy intel GMA intergrated GPU,which is why i like the amd budget notebook lineups since they come with AMD 3200/4200 which are 10x better than intel intergrated GPU by far.

Asus UL30VT
Is an excellent slim an light laptop and is very portable and has all the power you need for general tasks. However it doesn't have the power required for gaming or 1080p playback. But the build quality overall is very good as is the battery life, I can get about 6-8 hours of normal usage (web browsing mainly). The mouse trackpad is also the best I've used after Macbook Pros.
