Controlling AMD Phenom Temps

Ive recently build a new PC with a Phenom 955 BE.

However, my CPU fan is unbeleivably noisy. IVe never seen anything like it. I can udnerstand when I load Call of Duty, but in desktop? The temps are in the 30 so thers no reason for it to run this loud.

Im using a gigabyte board and tbh, ive seen nothing in bios to help me fix this.


Got speedfan, but I cant even see where you change the speed of the fan....

Just get a cheap 120mm tower cooler, anything really will do, or an arctic freezer, that should be quieter. Personally I've got a xigmatek HDT-S1283 and it'sall but silent and the temps are 44C full load with a considerable overvolt.

So its not possible to turn my cpu fan down from max? I had cool n quiet on, now turned it off and its the same....

Some of the Gigabyte AMD boards have really rubbish fan control for some unknown reason. By rubbish I mean it completely doesn't work.

My Desktop #2 has exactly this issue, so I moved the fan off the motherboard and onto a molex 5V adapter.

Whats the easiest fan/heatsink to fit to stop this problem?

Will i need both or will a new fan added onto the AMD stock heatsink sort it?

You must have a dodgy fan as I used the stock cooler without any adjustments on my asus board with no noise problems.

Just cut the one connector to accept the PWN header of the fan and your away.IMHO The stock cooler is a good cooler for a freebie.

Alternatively get a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev2 £16.

how will that help? sorry im a noob. Changing the power connector will help control the fan speed cause the mobo is sh!t at it?

You have a 4 pin fan socket plugged into the motherboard. The motherboard is currently spinning it at max RPM.

You could plug the 4 pin fan socket straight into the PSU or a molex adapter, and it will also spin at max RPM.

If you get one of the adapters I or dfour recommended then you can plug the 4 pin fan socket into that, and it will provide a lower voltage, thus decreasing the fan speed.

Some boards just don't control fan speed at all - for whatever reason, they just run at 100% all the time. I suspect you have one of them.
