    Talking 486 project!lol!server lol!any ideas?

    i am planning a project for an old 486lol.im gonna overclock it and change some components!lol! i have heard there is a part called a "upgrade board".i might buy one of them. also i am keen to learn about sound proofing! so i will use this 486 to do that.i will keep it very.and also cut a window in the side panel so i can learn about window panel making aswell!lol!any thoughts welcome!lol

    I would reccomend - you, a friend with a camera, and a sledgehammer. Always a good way to give a poor old useless 486 the send off it deserves.

    i would recommend staying clear of those 'upgrade baords' I have never seen one work properly, and the amount we used to get back in the returns dpt where i used to work was crazy compared to how many sold. you'd be better off getting a cheap motherboard/cpu/memory combo deal for your case, either from ebay (dirt cheap) or from a store that does the 'bundles' will probably work out cheaper than the upgrade board for a 486 anyway !

    what you can use a 486 for? hmmm, well other than using it as a physical object (table leg, stool, door wedge etc) smoothwall (very useful) or maybe a netware server are about all i can think of.

    lol i know its pointless but as itd free its a mission.lol. i could use it as a bin.lol. but probs may use it for smoothwall.
