    New Laptop

My sister wanted a new laptop and the best I could come up with for the price and performance is this
    http://www.comet.co.uk/p//688410
    or
    http://www.dabs.com/products/toshiba...-15-4294948013
Her budget is around £400-450 and it needs to last for quite a while, with a 15" plus screen size.
Do you think the laptop is a good enough deal or should I look at some of the less well known retailers and if you have any other suggestions.

    Happy new year

What do you think of the screen Gonzo? That seems to be the only thing people complain about after looking over a few forums. Think I'll pop into a Sainsburys tomorrow and see if I can get a look at one, wouldn't mind one myself at this price.

    Re: New Laptop

you do need to look at it head on or it looks funny, best way to descripe it is cleartype gone funny if the angles wrong, cheap ass panels for you, head on it looks great and plays movies fine. it is very bright, i had to turn it down to about 80%

end of the day its a laptop and designed to be sat on your knee, if you slump down you move the screen, simples.

    Re: New Laptop

Yep, wouldn't expect it to look great off-angle, but so long as it's decent head on that's all I wanted to know, cheers

    Trip to Sainsburys tomorrow then!

    Re: New Laptop

don't make a special trip, i did 4 stores, came home rang the 5th and they had 3 left. thanks to HDUK there like rocking horse ***t at the moment, ring round and if you find one have it put under the customer service desk, before you swipe your card (don't forget the 900+ nectar points) unpack to take a look, batterys already attached so you can power it up to check for screen damage like i did!

then you get to go home and spend the evening loading 64bit vista on as it comes with 32 bit installed and both recovery dvd's (i wiped the recovery partitions to get the extra space.)

if you get it i will do you a quick reply on what to install and where form to save messing about

    Re: New Laptop

The acer from Comet is a great deal, but the Medion is unbelievable! I've convinced myself that I don't need a new laptop until next summer but the spec on that Medion is just incredible I'm so tempted right now to retire my old dell 6400...
