Hi all,
Right I have had some parts to upgrade my rig with for well over a year but it took a motherboard failure to prompt me to actually get round to the tear down and rebuild.
Anyways.....
The issue is ram related.
I have an XFX 790i Ultra board and a 4gb kit of OCZ Plat ram 1800 8-8-8-27 1.9v, kit number ocz3p18004gk
I can't get her to boot, I get into post then crash out and back round we go. The on board code says it is verifying ram when we crash and burn.....
Reading up I have now found out the 790i Ultra can be a pig when it comes to memory and may just not like what I have popped in, this is fecking annoying to say the least. XFX tech supports response was, well it should work, or words to that effect...
I bought myself an unbranded stick of DDR3 1.5v, I wanted to pop the memory timings in which meant I needed to get into bios which I could not do with the kit, one stick or two installed...
Great it can boot with one stick of crappy ram......
I have set the timings to 8-8-8-27 1T and 1.9v. Popped a single stick from the kit in and I still can not boot. I can get further into the post though, I can at least enter BIOS :-)
Well does anyone have any ideas. I do not think the ram is faulty I just think it is the board being a pain in the ass. With it booting on 1.5v ram I am tempted to sell the 4GB kit and get a newer lower V kit as 1.5v is now standard whereas when I started higher voltage was basically all that was on offer.
All help is greatly appreciated :-)
Regards
Ed
