i7 newbuild: thanks + one question
Hello,
Just a quick post to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped me put together my spangly new i7 machine. Now up and running, and it's awesome. Thank you!
Also, question: it's an i7 950 on a Gigabyte UD3R. All went smoothly - except for one point during windows 7 installation, the machine hung before the post screen. A quick google terrified me: thought I might have fried something. The north bridge and DDR LEDs were all lit. Eek. However, I restarted twice and it then worked - and has worked smoothly since. CPU temps are good and everything appears stable.
It was a heartstopping moment though. Anyone got any idea what that was all about? I'm happy it's now stable, but I'm nervous when computers display apparently random behaviour!
Anyway, fingers crossed, all good. Thanks y'all.
Dan

Probably just windoze being windoze. If its been good since I would just ignore it and carry on enjoying your new machine :)
Re: i7 newbuild: thanks + one question
Could be just a freak/temperature related electrical glitch (crashing the NB or something). In ultra cold conditions my computer produces some noise from PVMs somewhere, but this disappears very quickly once the components warm up a little.
Then again, windows install does strange things with disk drivers that seems to initiate some things in the early stage of POST as drives initialise etc.
Re: i7 newbuild: thanks + one question
the leds on the x58a-ud3r report on temp and voltage to memory, cpu and nb, imho they arnt that clear and light up at various stages during boot and post which to me seems a waste of time, I totally ignore them and use either the bios or the GB ET6 app to determine temp and voltage. The crash was prob just bad luck

Just keep a watch on the temperatures, sounds like it got alittle hot. Normally this issue keeps reappearing.
