    Lightbulb Laptop. £600-700

    Hi there,

I was originally planning to build a pc and had a thread earlier where quite a few of you chaps shared some genuinely useful information. (tyvm again)
However due to some family circumstances and now increased mobility requirements I have to go for a laptop after all.

I would really appreciate some advice on best deals available at the moment.

The new processors are still not around on any websites when it comes to laptops and I am also unsure if it is actually worth waiting even longer for SB to affect the pricing for laptops.

I would prefer for the laptop to handle most current titles when it comes to games (and I do understand at this price range I can't ask for crysis on max settings but still).

The only options I have currently are dell xps, alienware m11x and this thing over here http://www.scan.co.uk/products/17-to...-100-cash-back
I am also a student so if some retailers provide student discount that would obviously improve the quality of the machine I will be able to afford and I would appreciate if you shared this info.

    Thanks in advance.

I think Dell will do student discounts but it needs to be done through your uni/school/college talk to you IT people and see if they have it set up

hey I've heard about dell doing it but thanks nevertheless

any experience using their laptops / criticism or opinions of what i'm chosing between now ?
it's bloody annoying to be honest after all the research I've done for building a desktop and a week off doing it the whole thing goes to the crapper ...

I don't like dell, my gf's is always breaking but then i don't have much with many pieces of technology!

Most people get on ok, the xps range is good.

    Alternatively toshiba are not bad

How portable do you need it to be.
For example I carry mine around everyday and so got one weighting just 1.3kg. Do you need it this light?
Dells seem to work fine, but when you have to go through their customer service.... Abismal

    Hey
I really dont care about mobility - if it's small gr8 if not just the same.
The only difference is I would eventually get a monitor for m11x as well.
