Amd build on the cheap - touchscreen

As per title, I've been asked by the sister to build a pc with touch screen, now the cheapest touch screen on scan is £230 odd....so this takes alot from the budget which is...

£600 max, this has got to get the whole system, so keyboard mouse, screen and tower, cables are not needed! now the pc will be used for..

    web surfing
normal photo tasks - taking photos from camera and then burning to disk
    watching bbc iplayer XD

So as you can see now alot is needed out of this system, so no discret gpu (thank god)

Im debating on going amd as i know how cheap they are, so a little help? thanks

    Re: Touchscreen pc buying advice

I would not recommend a touch screen because of the finger marks you will get, unless its the only way you would like to use your system. I think it sounds nice but is not good in reality and before you all start telling me I'm wrong one I do not want to know and two I have used them before.

maybe you could save yourself some hassle and suggest the dell inspiron one? I would put money on it being cheaper and better than anything you could build yourself.

    Re: Touchscreen pc buying advice

Thanks, but ive got specific orders on building this pc, the dell looks to be good but there is a samsung about that has better specs for about £20 more, the idea is to brind down the cost and have better parts inside, instead of laptop parts..

Asus m4a78t=m - its code for scan is - LN35906

But what i need to ask is, will it support either of these cpus?

the dual core should easily suffice the needs mentioned, that extra core will probabily never be used.

Yes it will support those cpus

I've got my eye on the Asus M4A78LT-M too. It looks a very good board for the money.

It supports a great range of CPUs - the list is on the Asus site here:

Get one of the bad boys from Uriels thread athlon-x2-5200-45nm-2-3ghz-am3-unlocks-phenom-fx-5200

Not sure on cache but even if it won't unlock you should be able to get a decent OC out of it on stock cooler. Even at stock it should be fine. Moose man got a cheap PSU off scan; not sure if its still on special. Mobo above looks fine and ram should be about 16/2gb stick. The crucial stuff; 1.5v 1333mhz seems to be everywhere rebranded.

I was thinking about reccommending this aswell. However, if you decided to go down this route bear in mind that you will need to test the system for stability etc (which means another hassle for you ). If you dont mind then go for it, (I personally would be tempted to unlock it, but thats just me).

Re: Amd build on the cheap - touchscreen

It would be a good idea to go for one of the 45W Athlon II X2 IMHO:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/177049

The 740G and 760G motherboards use an IGP which lack UVD2 so I would spend a few quid more on a 7807/785G/880G based or a 8200/8300 based motherboard.

    Edit!!

One of these motherboards should do the job:

The IGP lacks UVD2 which means worse media decoding abilities.

If you check the post I have listed some motherboards which should do the job AFAIK.
