    Recommend me a PSU please!

Been searching around for ages and hav'nt been unable to get a definitive idea of what I should be aiming for in regards to correct wattage PSU.

    My system is: -

    i7-950 s1366 (mild oc)
    ASUS P6T Deluxe v2
    3x 2GB DDR3
    2x GTX460 (hopefully SLi'd)
    1x 160GB SATA HDD

Main usage: Browsing tinternet & gaming

Hoping not to spend more than £70, maybe i'm wrong...

    Hope someone can help.
    Thanks.

600w should be enough I think, someone else can confirm. What do you have at the minute?

Do you want modualar or hard wired?

This PSU should do the job IMHO:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/650w-...-12v-120mm-fan

It has modular cabling and 4 PCI-E power connectors.

Only down side is it's semi-modular, there's about 5 or 6 fixed cables and only 4 modular ones, still it has the main cables you need fixed so you not really losing out as you use those cables on a modular psu anyway.

I have this PSU and as Pob says, you will use all but one of the hard wired cables. I used one of the modular cables for the 2nd GPU power input but have plenty of space for further additions should I wish.

On top of that it's really, really quiet and about £15 cheaper than when I bought it.
Of course I'm perfect you just need to lower your expectations.

I have read in Hexus that PSUs loose 10% pa and most people carry over a PSU in upgrades. Might it not therefore be better to op for one in the 750 - 850w range, considering you have SLI and possible overclocking? Or am I completely missing the point?

Re: Recommend me a PSU please!

I have the 750w Antec Truepower in mine and a 550w in the kids machine. Highly recommended.

I'd go for the 750 with dual GPUs.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

Currently running a Hiper TypeR 520w which is modular, only have one of the gfx cards plugged in currently, dare not plug the other in with the fear of the PSU popping or worse.
Being modular is not a neccesity as I have a big E-ATX case leaving plenty of space to tidy away cables.

If I can get a 750w PSU within my budget I'd go for it, could you recommend one?

    Thanks.

Re: Recommend me a PSU please!

If you added £20 onto your budget you should be able to get quite a good make, but under £70 for 750w PSU you are looking at something cheaply made..

Antec has one just under £17 over budget:

Re: Recommend me a PSU please!

I have read good things about the XFX 750w Black edition (Siler rated and £90). It is based on the famous MD-12 and uses very high quality components.

I don't know how the cheaper brother XFX 750w Core edition (Bronze rated and £77) compares. Maybe read a few review before deciding.

If some knows of a better alternative, please let mancubas know.

Re: Recommend me a PSU please!

The XFX's are all made by seasonic currently and very good for the price, not quite as tight on the ripple and voltage regulation as the Black and XXX series but still very good and well below the ATX spec.

note the XXX doesn't like low 12v loads, it's minimum load spec for 12v is 7.5 amps, go lower and the ripple goes up and out of spec and it lacks OCP http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/artic...y-Review/899/8 which isn't great.
The XXX is probably the weakest of the 3 series from XFX due to these two flaws, even though it's probably slightly better than the core models in terms of general within spec performance.
