For between £450 to £550 you can get a laptop with a Nvidia GT325M or an AMD Mobility Radeon HD5650:

But for the same cost you could get a far better gpu into a pc.

I still think a pc is the way to go for gaming

    Re: SB and graphics cards.

    I was mainly looking at
    dell xps 17 with i3 http://www1.euro.dell.com/uk/en/home...=ukepp1&~ck=mn
    and dell xps 15 with i5 http://www1.euro.dell.com/uk/en/home...=ukepp1&~ck=mn

those appeared to be rather good and in my price range
it's basically 15 i5 and crappier gt 420 but 4gb ram vs 17 i3 and better gt 435 gpu and 3 gb ram

was also considering getting the original r1 alienware m11x which I could then use for absolute ages as a sorta travel companion and the perfomance reviews for it are good (worried it would be too small to play on however so would have to get monitor when next loan is through i guess)

    any opinions about those ?

    cheers

The Dell Inspiron 15R with an Intel Core i3 370M 2.4Ghz and a 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 for around £550 should do the job IMHO:

The Alienware m11X also looks good but is quite expensive IMHO.
