    Unformatting a hardrive

My dad has managed to lose all his music of his ipod and typically this was same the weekend that he chose to reformat his disks.

What do you guys use to unformat- if you do. Most freely available programs dont support xp?

I think you can read the filesystem from Linux or maybe save it from there.

A friend of mine swears by GetDataBack, but, as you point out, it's not free.
