Red face A new PC for Graphics

Hi guys. I would like to build a new PC. I'd say I work a lot on 2D graphics- photo editing and some ps /illustrator graphics. I also work on video editing and my current PC is taking me a long time to render some effect. I was trying to do the searching and building all by myself, but after looking at some components, I felt I'm out of my PC hardware depth. So I need your help.

Below are the software I run frequently

    Adobe PS,
    Adobe After Effect,
    Adobe Premier pro
    Flash
    some video players
    Nikon neff viewer
    Picasa
    Skype
chrome (actually all browsers to test my web designs)
    word, excel
some video converting software and DVD burner,
    and itune
    ah and of course utorrent

i don't do much 3D work, not much gaming either on my PC. But I will defo get the Diablo III when it's out next year.
So what do you guys recommend? I have a budget of £700-£800.

    Please offer me some advice/specs.

    Many many thanks!

Wait for Sandy Bridge (Intel i5 2400/2500 for eg.) in the new year - it will contain specific acceleration for many of these tasks.

but when it's new, the price will be quite high, won't it? plus the VAT increase...

The CPUs are being priced surprisingly low actually, it's just the motherboards that are a little uncertain - hopefully the vast competition should drive prices down pretty quickly. VAT increase is only another 2.5pc of the pre-vat price - we get way more variation than that just in currency fluctuations, and if the PC is for business use...

Yup, we need to wait for the motherboards, and there's no point pricing anything else up as the situation will have changed by the time you come to put it together.

Vat is increasing from 15% to 20% so if you buy something for £200 at VAT 15%, it will only cost an extra £8.70 @ 20%

The standard rate of VAT was temporarily reduced to 15 per cent on 1 December 2008 and it returned to 17.5 per cent on 1 January 2010.

However on the flip side you can also hunt out some xmass deals as many places are lowering their prices trying to grab as much trade as possible.

Surely you would also look at whether the mainboard allows for future upgrade, eg amd am3?
