    Decent AM2+ HSF recommendations?

    Morning folks!

I've been running the stock HSF on my X3 435 but after bumping it to 3.3Ghz & encoding on handbrake with only 2 active cores it's hitting 67C so I think it's about time I looked into a new HSF!

I'll obviously replace the paste before I buy but I'm waaaay out of the loop when it comes to these things nowadays.

So...any suggestions? I'm not after all out performance but I'd like something quiet & cheap

    Cheers!

    Rob

    Re: Decent AM2+ HSF recommendations?

I had a freezer 64, found it quite good so would happily go for another.

Just had the PC open, gave it a good hoover (mad how much dust gets in this case due to the HUGE side intake fan) & reapplied some MX5 so I reckon that'll make quite a difference!

I could have sworn I saw on here a heatpipe cooler, just a plate with the pipes leading upto the HS, fan pointed down, looked like it'd cool the surrounding area too, any ideas what that is from my vague description?! Knda like this ?

Edit: Now 52C encoding on all 3 cores

    iirc its the 1284.

I suppose you're not going to be able to use a full height cooler due to having a fan?

That's the one Although just looked at a review & it isn't great!

Not sure of clearance, will have to measure if I want to get an aftermarket one, might be a tight fit!

What you want is the HTD-S1283 but you don't have room? Cost me a tenner or so brand new, and with virtually the same chip as you with the extra core unlocked and 1.45 vcore it's cool and quiet

    Re: Decent AM2+ HSF recommendations?

As already keep an eye for the scan deals, picked up the Coolermaster Hyper 212 Quiet just under £9
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/coole...m3-754-939-940, swapped my corsair h50(have no idea what the appeal of these things are).

I would never have thought coolermaster for a cpu cooler until I got the Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus thrown in on a motherboard deal and boy what another great cooler. I have had some great air cooler, thermaright sp-97/xp120/slk-947, tuniq tower 120, Scythe Ninja, various freezer pros, and the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 another great cooler with ease of fitting a plus. Give me the coolermasters anytime

    cheers

I was thinking of the h50 actually, low profile and quiet(?..) past my buyer of £0 though
