    Analogue audio Outputs

I am adding a subwoofer to my carPC setup. Originally I had the headphone jacked to run the speakers (with splitters to convert it from mono to 2 x stereo). Witht his sub I was hoping to just plug the amp into the sub output (orange). Whilst I was at it I was going to connect the front speakers to the front output and the rear speakers to the rear output, just for the sack of neatness & having it connected properly.

I did this and all worked in the windows config panel, when I tested the speakers the fronts chimed then the rears chimed then the sub thudded....until i ran windows media player to try it out. All that worked was one speaker from the front & one speaker from the rear!

Why is it that windows config tests them all out & they work fine...but windows media player ignores all but 1 front & 1 rear?

    Can anyone offer any ideas?

    thanks guys

    Re: Analogue audio Outputs

There will have to be some sort of processing somewhere that outputs stereo to 4+1 channels - do your soundcard drivers come with any software to control the output?

Why at the moment it comes out 1 front and 1 rear I have no idea!

    Re: Analogue audio Outputs

It's the on-board sound ports...what confuses me is the fact everything works fine in the windows config panel, all the speakers and sub work as they should when the 'test' button is pressed for each!

    Re: Analogue audio Outputs

are you sure that you have connected F-left and F-right speckers in the car to the front 3.5mm output in the computer, as it sounds like you have one of the front and one of the rear speackers plugged into the front output, and the other speckers in the rear output. As windows media player will only play the number of channels that the input is (for audio sterio, for DVD's 5.1 ect), and you probablly dont have it set up to expand sterio. You could try playing a dvd and sound should come from all speckers.

If that works, then you need to set the specker types to small, and in Specker Properties > enhancements set the bass management crossover at the approprate ammount. Then the sub will work.

Then with the other speckers tbh it is far easier just to leave them all in the front output, otherwise you need to find a decoder that will play 4ch sterio niceley (the standard expand sterio option in wmp is pretty rubbish, but you can try it if you like_

    Re: Analogue audio Outputs

I have gone back to using the single headphone output with a splitter going to 2 x splitters for the AMP, then the sub output (orange jack) going to the sub. This seems to be working but I need to work on the levels a bit more as the sub isn't as crisp(?) as I'd like it to be!

Will the 'bass enhancement' settings in the sound settings be able to help out with this? I have tried it down to 30hz and up to 100hz but it doesnt seem to make much difference. Never have been much good with this sort of thing!

    Re: Analogue audio Outputs

Probablly best to confurm which OS this is on, as I have been assuming windows 7, (is the same in vista, but not sure about xp).

Firstly if you are using the headphone output on the front of the case, and the sub output on the back, then I would not have thought that to work, since plugging into headphone port usually dissables the standard (sterio, 5.1 ect) input on the back (not allways though). However to avoid confusion I would ensure you are plugging it into the green LR output on the back of the case.

Next right click on the speckers icon (taskbar) and go playback devices. Right Click speckers and go configure, then select 5.1 surround. In the next step uncheck the center and side pair boxes. Then in the step uncheck front left and right (so they are not set to full range). Finish the configuration.

Then right click speckers and go properties. Click enhancements and check bass management. Go to settings and choose an approprate crossover depending on your speckers. You may want to fiddle arround with this a bit to get it right. Then by clicking levels and balance you can adjust how loud the left/right/sub are until it is right.

    Hope that it helps
