Suggestions for best little Cheap laser Printer
I am fed up with swapping matt and photo ink out of my nice new Epson 2880 Photo printer and guessing that i'm not getting the best value for money when printing ebay labels or shopping lists!!!!
I have just spotted this
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/samsu...150-sheet-tray
I have also seen it at £49.00 - any competition if I just want something to print mundane stuff?????
Seems wery wery cheap :)
Re: Suggestions for best little Cheap laser Printer
I use the cheapy HP ones, 1018-1022 series..
Think they are mostly EOL now tho..
Re: Suggestions for best little Cheap laser Printer
There's not much to complain about the ML-1665 when it's going for £50, however it's almost £80 everywhere else and for that price I'd go for a printer with a greater paper capacity and faster print speed. It will certainly suit your needs as a basic and economic mono printer and for £50 it's difficult to find a new printer that's significantly better.
Usual things to bear in mind when buying cheap laser printers; the toner it comes with is only good for about half the pages a ‘normal’ cartridge would do, Samsung carts start at around £30 for refilled and refurbished and roughly £50 for new carts.
Re: Suggestions for best little Cheap laser Printer
I've heard good things about the Samsung printers in general, don't know about that model
the samsung genuine toners are cheaper than other make genuine toners.
2nd party toners while cheaper can be rather dodgy, some are better than others, remanufactured are best (ie an original HP body is used, roller is replaced with the same OEM roller as used by hp, refilled with toner and the pcb replaced)
Even cheaper are 3rd party compatible toners, which are just straight copies but often nowhere near as good and plagued with faults.

Thanks All :)
Ordered the Sammy from Amazon - free super saver delivery 49.99 - sounds like a deal.
And I would def use original carts, learnt my lesson with inkjets before !!!!!!
Re: Suggestions for best little Cheap laser Printer
ML-1665 from Amazon is definitely the cheapest printer deal if you don't need things like wifi. I have this concern about ML -1665. Customer reviewers complain its first cartridge runs out too quickly and you have buy a new one in no time, which of course brings the price up a lot. I'd like to know your experience with ML-1665 Syd.
Re: Suggestions for best little Cheap laser Printer
I've got this model a few weeks ago...I'm very happy with it so far. it's relatively small, quiet and fast (compared to an inkjet printer that is).
I dont think that there's a better alternative.
Re: Suggestions for best little Cheap laser Printer
All laser printers come with a free cartridge which is only quarter or half filled, it's all too normal.

I got my dad an HP colour Laser Jet, and was a bit disappointed on this 400 quid beast that it comes with 4 "starter" toners, that only do 1000 sheets rather than the normal and not very impressive 3000, compared to my older printer that does 6000 pages and I still have 4 replacement toners from when I got it!
Re: Suggestions for best little Cheap laser Printer
Sure, the free cartridge is never full, That's how printer business works. The first cartridge life usually determines the secret price of a monochrome printer. Now, most printers I've seen and all I've used can go up to 1000 pages with the first cartridge. Some people are very disappointed with ML-1665 monochrome laser printer and say it just finished after 150 pages. If that's the case, it's not a deal. I could add a little more money on that to get a wifi, duplex etc. printer.
Re: Suggestions for best little Cheap laser Printer
Check the toners, HP toners come in "starter" the partially filled free toner
standard capacity, number code ending in A
high capacity, number code ending in Q
However many of the low cost colour lasers only have standard capacity toners and don't have high capacity options.
Also note that cartridge page count is based on 5% coverage, from personal experience a page of full text is normally closer to 8-9% coverage.
Re: Suggestions for best little Cheap laser Printer
Syd,
How do you like the printer now you've had it a while? Just saw this thread and at £53 or so on Scan it looks like a good buy so I'm considering buying one myself.

You sure about that numbering on the HP printers?
I have a CE505X here which would sugegst the Hicap ones end in an X..
