    Monitor mains cable

    Hey again,

Came back to my mothers for Christmas and been digging through loads of my old crap since she's moving house.

Found my old 17 inch Fujitsu Siemens LCD monitor, but can't find any of its wires.
Therefore while finding VGA for it won't be an issue, mains cable etc. seems to be hard- I simply can't find it anywhere online.

    Monitor spec:
    Scaleoview x17-3
    Model ID S26361-K985-V200
    Power AC 120/230 V ( 50/60 Hz ) - looked that up online.

Would really appreciate if anyone could point me in the right direction for finding the power cables for this since a spare monitor is never bad.

Hope everyone having a good Crimbo !

    Re: Monitor mains cable

Does it not use a PC PSU power cable then? You will have to shop on websites that sell spares or contact Fujitsu themselves. Going blind here really, not knowing what the socket actually looks like.

I've never seen a monitor not use a 'kettle lead'.

I've seen monitors not use a kettle lead before. I've seen many monitors especially older LCD's use smaller power adaptors similar to something you would use for a laptop charger. If it's got one of these smaller connectors, grab a variable PSU with multiple changeable connectors off of ebay for about £10. That way you can put the correct connector on for your monitor and select the correct voltage etc...

If this is the connectors you need try something like this - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Universal-AC-D...#ht_2559wt_784

    Re: Monitor mains cable

Indeed many older monitors use power adaptors instead of a direct lead.

ps it's an "IEC UK mains power lead" not a kettle lead ok a little pedantic but there is a difference, there is a notch in a kettle lead plug and it's designed for far higher current than a IEC lead and has the potential to cause issues if you used one.

Thanks for the info on the adaptors - Never seen one!

I'm aware of the difference, but if you go to any retailer / even Ebay, they are most likely going to be under the banner of 'kettle lead'. For example. I think it's a bit more useful giving the OP a name that most retailers are going to use so he can find one personally. Your average retail monkey (I'm not bad mouthing them, most of us have been there) is just going to say "Don't sell em mate" if you ask for a "IEC UK mains power lead".

That to one side though, what issues could be caused by the lead? I don't see how a lead rated for a higher current could cause issues? By the time you've reached a situation where the cable would allow that extra current, the fuse should have blown long before then. A PSU using going to draw more because the lead allows it?

My HP w19 has an adaptor, and that's not even particularly old. It's a 1440x900 DVI-capable flatscreen.

    Re: Monitor mains cable

    Opps didn't spot that.

@Agent yes you could have a faulty psu that shorts at the mains end, a kettle lead generally has a higher rated fuse in it if I remember correctly so it'll allow more current through before the fuse goes, which in turn could cause problems, such as an electrical fire in the psu.
Ok it shouldn't be an issue really, esp with any half decent psu, the main issue would be the other way around, ie trying to use an IEC lead to power a kettle.
Interesting any decent psu over 900w should come with a more heavy duty than normal IEC lead.
It's more good practise to use the correct lead for the correct use.
