Prime95 testing a Q6600 at stock and one core doesn't complete a test.
I'm fixing an old Packard Bell Q6600 system that used to 'blue screen' having been given a punching attack by it's owner for not working (probably due to viruses and other malware).
The seemingly broken graphics card had been removed before the PC came to me. Apart from the missing graphics card the PC appears undamaged inside and out. Having installed a new CMOS battery and 'factory reset' the hard drive to make sure there are no viruses it seems to run fine running iplayer and other basic stuff.
Now I'm testing it with prime95. I'm getting a weird thing though. I've run it a couple of times, this time it has been running for an hour. Workers 1, 2 and 3 have completed about 20 tests, but worker 4 (CPU3) seems stuck on test 1. There are no error messages.
So, the plan is to sell this system, but I'm not sure in honesty if I should sell it as working with this issue which deosnt seem to affect anything else or if I should start doing things like taking out reseating the CPU and HSF.
Update: While I typed this, the worker 4 thread at just over an hour has completed test 1. Is this normal?

whip off the heatsink and reaply proper thermal paste.

You manage to make it sound like that wouldn't take at least half an hour!
Of course I should check temps and such and I will to see if the one core is throttling badly. I just want to get the thing fxed and sold with mimimum effort!

Have a look at coretemp , hwmonitor or similar to see if it is throttling due to heat. Then if it is, whip off the heatsink and reply thermal paste.
The last bit is a 10 minute job if you don't need to remove the motherboard to do it.

What memory are you running with it too? Using all 4 sticks?

actually it IS about half and hours job.. but then, testing a PC over and over to see it fail is taking you days of grief!

I ran it again and it ran prime95 for 7 hours no problems, max temp was 69. So, all seems fine.
