Just shows what an upgrade can do!
Thought this might be of interest to people considering a Sandybridge upgrade.
My original system:

Intel E8600 3.3GHz CPU
4GB Corsair DDR2
Bog-standard SATA hard drive

Quite a difference eh! ...and just to say, I *do* notice a significant difference in system responsiveness/boot time. This is not just benchmarks talking :)
Upgrade now ;)
Re: Just shows what an upgrade can do!
What was the hard drive/ssd ??
Looking at those numbers I'm guessing you where running the sata in IDE legacy mode on your p43
That's the only reason I can see for that big a jump is disc performance numbers
Re: Just shows what an upgrade can do!
SATA was in IDE mode in previous PC, yes.
Should it have been in AHCI then?
Either way, massive difference and I'm chuffed :)
P.S. it's a Crucial RealSSD C300 64GB

The noticeable performance increase is all due to the SSD I think.
Re: Just shows what an upgrade can do!
Agreed. Quad will be beneficial, but it's 99% the SSD.
Re: Just shows what an upgrade can do!
I imagine the CPU and RAM may have helped with processor and memory performance, somewhat. ;)

Thanks for posting, funnily enough I've just upgraded to a modest sandy bridge and the thing that struck me most, that there is almost no difference in the time it takes applications to load from my single core Athlon 64 4200, using the same Samsung F3 7200rpm. which I swapped a to the new rig.
I really understand what all the fuss is about with these solid-state drives. Great benchmarking figures you have there nice job.:)
Re: Just shows what an upgrade can do!
Yes running in IDE mode limits the transfer rates to a theoretical max of 133MB/s in practise it's lower around 120MB/s max and under sata IDE emulation even less
