stared for too long and this is what happened
My plan was to upgrade some parts of my rig, i started looking at more than i needed and my thing i know I've got a new rig on the way, MSI big bang xpower with i7 950 and a Vertex 2E SSD.
What i need help with now is picking some good DDR3 ram and aftermarket cooler, the two coolers that i have looked at so far are the noctua nh-d14 and thermalright silver arrow. From what I've seen these two are beast in size and would require me to remove the side fan on my antec 902 to fit them in the case. Was hoping some of you kind people could suggest coolers that are as good or even better that would fit in my case.
so much for not spending too much money
thank you all in advance for your input.
Re: stared for too long and this is what happened
Why not go with a Corsair H50 or H70? neat and tidy solutions though not the cheapest..
Re: stared for too long and this is what happened
Either of the below two Noctua's would done a fine job:
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/noctu...with-140mm-fan
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/noctu...-3-compatiable
The C14 is the more compact in terms of height and performs about the same as the U12.
Re: stared for too long and this is what happened
The NH-D14 fits in an antec 300 without any modifications. It should fit in a 902, assuming you're not using an odd motherboard form factor?
Re: stared for too long and this is what happened
i was think of the all in one but was put off due to the amount of money I've spent and the worse case scenario and too sure how long they last for. i have read and watched reviews for both the noctua coolers and to me the reviews are mixed and are not as definite as those for the noctua nh-d14 and thermalright silver arrow.
repressor are you sure if that is so you are a god send thank you
you have any ideas on good DDR3 ram that i could buy for my Big bang xpower i don't need much as I'm running Win7 ultimate 32bit
Re: stared for too long and this is what happened
Big issue you'll have is that with the nh-d14 you cannot use memory with tall heatsinks.
Re: stared for too long and this is what happened
thanks Pob that info came in handy was just looking at the Corsair Memory Dominator 3GB DDR3 will keep on looking
Re: stared for too long and this is what happened
XMS3 for ram
and thermalright venomousX for cooler, is what i have now, and i think its one of the best coolers i dealt with. The mounting system on it is dead simple and effective. And is very very easy to use. I used to have a very small case and it was still easy to install etc
Re: stared for too long and this is what happened
thanks Georgy i when for the 6GB XMS3 from scan to be honest i don't thing i will ever need all that ram but you never know, on the cooler side i decided to go with the noctua nh-d14 as I'm planing to try my hand at overclocking the CPU. now that the 560GTX are out now i thought while i was at it i should up grade my 8800gt ocx too so i ordered the MSI GeForce GTX 560 Ti also from scan.
I'm going to hate it when i get next statement in the post.
Re: stared for too long and this is what happened
actually the some of the dominator memory is ok as you can remove the additional hight part of the heat sink, it's just held on with a couple of screws, although I cannot remember which ones are and which are not removable.
The new Survivor memory would be good but that is too tall and the top of the heatsink is not removable.
Re: stared for too long and this is what happened
just a heads up for others the NH-D14 doesn't fit in an antec 902 that well as the case comes with a side fan holder which pushes the cooler I'm thinking of breaking of the part of the fan holder that is touching the cooler as i will not be able to install a side fan anyway as there is no room for it with the cooler installed.
