    Help needed please

Hello people of Hexus, i reallty hope you can help me.

I have just built my new PC consisting of: -

i7 CPU (Not the brand new version)
    Gigabyte X58A UD3R Mobo
    6GB Corsair DDR3 RAM

So the system went together pretty easy and quickly, probably the quickest ive ever built a system.

However, upon trying to start the machine, nothing displays. There are no error beeps or anything, all the fans spin up without any problems.

I have tried to boot the PC with an 8800GTS and a GTX260, both of these give the same result, a blank screen, I have tried the cards in all the slots possible and clearing the CMOS.

The PSU is a Corsair 520 modular thing.

I suspect the GTX260 not working is more than likely down to not having a second 6 pin PCI connector, I can't find the PSU box so can't find a second PCI E cable.

However while I am hunting for the cable, does anyone have any suiggestions on what the cause of the problem may be?

HELP! I need the PC up before LAN time which is 4th, 5th, 6th of this month,

    Tar muchly.

    Re: Help needed please

If you dont plug both the 2 PCI-e power inputs on the card, it aint going to fly my friend, you need both.

If you dont get any beeps then i would be incline to think that you dont have any issues apart from the card power, however i have had boards where the speaker didnt work and didint get beeps when there was a problem anyway. (however is this is pretty rare).

Im pretty sure that you not powering both ports is your issue.

    Re: Help needed please

See I tried the 8800 which obviously is one 6 pin connector and it still wouldn't boot.

When I didnt connect power to the 8800 I got the annoying whineyou get when its not connected.

I did suspect as much in regards to the two 6 pin connectors being needed, just hoped having one may have produced something.

Going to try again tonight, will remove all components and rebuild again tonight, see if I spot anything I didnt notice before.

Wonder if my 8800 died during the removal :s

    Re: Help needed please

I've had similar problems with builds, embarrassingly enough it was sometimes due to not plugging in the extra 4/6 (?) pin power connector to the mobo

It is probably worth removing all cards/memory sticks and putting them back just to ensure that everything is plugged in properly.

Is the PSU OK? Can you test the voltage on the "power good" line - should get 5V.

Im pretty sure I did this, although it may not have been connected properly so will double check that tonight, I need to find a spare 6 pin power cable for my PSU so I can test that side of things.

Grr why did I leave it so late to rebuild and just "hope" everything would work

    Re: Help needed please

Have you actually connected a speaker to the motherboard? Its odd your not getting any bleeps at all. Not all boards have build in sounders and not all cases have speakers these days.

I get a beep when I dont connect power to the GFX so I am assuming there is a speaker.

Sorry Blue, didn't see your post.

I don't have anything to test the PSU with. The motherboard has lights and stuff that tell me if everything is ok or not, it gives a rough idea if voltages are ok and the like, but until I get the system working properly I won't know what the lights refer to.

I am going to try and rebuild tonight and just see if I did miss anything, if not then I have spoken to SCAN and he has said I can take the rig in on saturday for it to be looked at, but hopefully I will have it fixed before then.

    Re: Help needed please

So, I leave in 20 minutes and this is what I have planned for when I get home.

Rebuild entire PC - Replacing components 1 by 1 and trying to boot and see if i can source a second 6 pin pci e cable.

    Anyone else got any suggestions?

    Re: Help needed please

yeah thats sounds like the best idea, to eliminate any problems. As its a new build im guessing you dont have any other parts that you could use to eliminate certain parts like the mobo? .. good luck and let me know what the problem was in the end

    Re: Help needed please

Its a complete new build, socket etc so no hardware I can test with.

So, I tried the rebuild and no luck.

Tried with just CPU + cooler/ heatsink, everything span up but again no beeps, nothing.
Added 8800, connected power, tried, no workie.
All cables appear to be connected.

I am thinking now, that it may be a motherboard issue, maybe something I've missed...
Hope SCAN can get to the bottom of it on Saturday.

yeah does sound like a motherboard issue, unless its your GPU? but you have tried two different cards right?.. you tried with only using 1 RAM stick in first slot?

    Re: Help needed please

I tried with no RAM and I dont have a second PCI E power cable for my PSU so can't test the second card.
Sucks that I am working all week, otherwise I would pop to SCAN during the week instead.

Surely without any RAM it wouldn't even POST? try it with just one stick and see if any difference?
