    New wifi driver for wind / Advent 4211

    Just a heads up a new wifi driver was released for the wind today, have installed it on my 4211 and seems fine.

    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?f...2&cat3_no=1474

    I also did the bios update thats on the techguys website
    http://support.thetechguys.com/layou...-89014d901f4d}

    follow the instructions including tatking the battery out / unplug. Thought I had killed it when the keyboard wouldnt work.

    Bit of extra info, if you need to plug a dvd / cdrom drive in to instal anything, the cheap and nasty cables work. Just tried
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB-2-0-to-IDE...3286.m14.l1318
    with the dvd out of my desktop and it works a treat, the cables are generally handy to have anyway.

    Really happy with it, just the right size for me, and more than enough power to do my tasks. Had to go the XP route as I want to run couple of bits of software that are XP only, and they were one of the main reasons for wanting this little beasty. I do quiet a bit of rifle shooting out to 1000 yards and use ballistics software for working out where to aim, not having to lug my old full sized laptop around will be handy. The other uses are to dump photos on from my camera when on holiday, run some mapping software, and possibly to run my camera from in tethered mode for macro. Its been a breeze to get working with my windows smartphone, just connect it up and have been surprised at how quick the internet is, even where HSDPA reception is poor

    Overall very happy.

    Re: New wifi driver for wind / Advent 4211

    The drivers on the Tech Guys site are out of date. The Wifi driver is the one that was supplied with the machine and caused the connection to drop every few mins. Replaced with the latest one from the MSI site and problem solved. BIOS version on Tech Guys is 1.05 and on MSI 1.06, though I haven't tried either as the machine seems to run OK at the mo.

    Re: New wifi driver for wind / Advent 4211

    The wifi connection on my 4211 is not as good as I would like it and so far I have attributed this to a dodgy New Zealand wifi signal. I have purchased a USB stick to give me wifi n capability. Some improvement but not really satisfactory.

    Flibb, can you advise me an ident number for the replacement driver you downloaded from MSI

    Regards Sandy

    Sorry Sandy haven got the rig any more. Have you tried the latest drivers from the MSI website?
    http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=nbd...5&prod_no=1474

    Oddly I swapped it out for a 7 year old tablet PC.
