I only ask as I've had a quick look but can't see it. Just a load of add-ons for Tablet (the XP Tablet link on MS page doesnt even work!) Some need WGA which this machine now fails

    Re: My 'new' toy!

Does it have to run Windows?

    Would something like UNE/R work?

You don't get the tablet bit add on unlike Vista and Win 7, to use tablet functions on XP you need Windows XP Tablet Edition disk, these are only available as OEM. As far as I know there are two versions of Win XP Tablet Edition, the first one (2004) and the subsequent 2005 version, there are two OEM installation disks for both but note you can't use the key from a 2004 COA on a 2005 installation and vice versa, much like how it's not possible to use the key from a 2001 XP Home with a 2005 XP Home disk. However, the tablet functionality became universal to all XP versions with SP2, the tablet software which was included in the 2004 version can be upgraded to the 2005 version through SP2.

    EDIT:

Unless things have changed since I last read up about this a year ago, there are no good Linux drivers for the digitiser, for example the pen buttons won't work.

    Re: My 'new' toy!

I stand corrected then, I'm sure I read that the Tablet features were available as a download from MS, obviously I was mistaken.

Ooh thats why my COA won't work (using SP3 so I'm guessing 2005 version?)

So now how do I get hold of a 204 disc!?

    Re: My 'new' toy!

I’ve had trouble in the past finding disks for previous versions of Windows XP, the fact that the tablet edition is not widely used makes finding those even harder. You can find 2005 SP3 disks quite easily though certain methods which I’m not at liberty to discuss here.

Oh and by the way, a correction to one of my earlier statements, there are actually three versions of XP Tablet Editions; 2002, 2004 and 2005.

Well there is a 'touch pack' to download from MS which is full of gimmicky software, nothing useful but good for keeping one or two people entertained for about 20mins. I should add most of the software in the touch pack is multi-touch only.

Pretty sure I've got a tablet edition cd kicking about, although no key to go with it.
