Best Sata-300 Cables to purchase

Hi Guy & Girls,

Recently I purchased 2 x Samsung 1TB drives (HD103SJ) to add to my existing system.

I had a set of new SATA cables (thin cables) around so I plugged them in and off we went, partitioned both drives into 500gb each (4x500gb).

after about 30-40mins one part of the partitions on both drives disappeared.. couldn't figured it out at first, i though it was the motherboard setting tried them no luck!!!

then.... after thinking about it for a few days!!! I disconnected my 2 x DVD-RW's (better cables installed used) and connected them to my 2 drives.... since them all seems ok!!!

These cables that I used on 2 x drives seem to be SATA150.. and much simmer (30AWG)

So now I wanted to change all my SATA cables in my system, so my question to you all is which is a good set of cables to purchase that has a min spec of SATA-300

I have used cables made by A C Ryan with some success. You might want tio consider cables with latches on them as I have had an instance of a cable working loose. Akasa cables are probably OK - not used them myself though. Startech is another well known brand

As far as I know SATA-II spec and onwards require cables to have the clips for secure fit.

No but they do help, sata -3gbs specs got rid on the open design socket so locking cables could be used.
There's no difference in sata cable specs between original 150mbs, 300mbs and the new 600mbs

However sata cables are less flexable and more prone to having the internal wire break if you bend them too much or too often.
Higher quality cables are more durable, I've also had the plug on a cheap sata cable crack and the side broke off so it will not say in.

Key things are get the correct length and the correct angled heads for your case and proposed cable route.
Locking clips do make life easier though.
Akasa makes some nice round sata cables which are good quality, not cheap though.

great hard drives by the way,personally I like the right angled locking connector type, in the shortest distance that will fit. sorry this is a little off topic, but my motherboard came with a single black SATA 3 6 GB/S,Does anyone know if you have to use a special cable for SATA 3.

I found that using a thick (26AWG) works better than using slimmer (30AWG).

as mentioned in this thread, better to use the ones with lock clips.

Scan have a good range. I'm still using some Extra long ones I bought somewhere cheap they don't have the latches either.

I think alot of the problems with SATA cables are due to sharp bends or very tight cable ties on them.

If you measure your cable route you should be able to get close to the exact cable you need.

Another vote for Akasa, I don't have the round ones but I have 1m silver ones, they seem to be made of a more rubbery material rather than stiff hard plastic.

As I said in the post above, no, there is no difference in any sata cable apart from quality, ones that are labeled sats 6gbs is just marketing.

Or in other words, there's no real difference apart from quality, if you've got bad cables trying to up the speed isn't going to help.
