They are probably wondering which list to put it on!
I think they've done that in order to make them sound better than they are and will start moving them all over to phenom II 8XX now. Weird but fair enough so long as they're clear about it. After all, numbers sell... But why not just make it the Phenom 6xx series?

There are already a couple of Phenom II X4 processors out there: they were OEM only chips with either 2MB or 4MB L3 cache, rather than the usual 6MB. I'm surprised that they'd use the same numbering for a series of chips with no L3 cache... vey bad indeed, IMNSHO
That's the most confusing part of it for me, if indeed this article is right about the price.
It seems like AMD are shooting themselves in the foot if they make a better processor (although it only appears to be slightly better) than the Athlon II X4 645 and then undercut themselves by charging less for it!
Can't seem to find anything on the AMD site about it so I guess we'll have to wait and see for it to be for sale.
iirc the 810 had less L3 cache and was AM2+ only. The cache could be unlocked too. Yes, its very confusing.
Phenom II and Athlon II are the same core, Phenom is earlier so a bad comparison.
Still, I expect an 8xx series to have reduced L3 not absent. But hey, the Athlon 7750BE had L3 cache in an Athlon so there is already confusion.
Bring back equivalent speed ratings

It does lack L3 cache though.
However, if anyone sees a Phenom 840T OEM, it's worth getting hold of. It's a locked X6 with full quota of L3 cache and turbo core. Some unlocks to X6 confirmed.
Neither Intel, AMD or nVidia seem to be able to resist the temptation to break their numbering systems for marketing purposes.
They desgign perfectly useful ways of numbering the products and then down the line break it.
Personally i think they make crappy numbering systems which are a pig to actually genuinely understand then make it even more confusing by breaking their own rules... maybe its just me.

Graphics cards right now seem to be ok...
Nvidia - 5 is current gen. 4 is last gen. Second digit is how powerful.
ATI - 6 is current gen, 5 is last gen. Second digit is the group, third digit is how powerful in that group.
ATI could make things easier by just going 1 to 9 on the second digit, similar to the way Nvidia have.. But even then they both break the rules
