    Settle an argument - 2700+ Barton

    Hopefully someone clever here can give me the definitive answer so I can tell Flash he's wrong.

    He's bidding on a processor on Ebay which is quoted as being a 2700+ Barton but I don't believe they exist.
    It says on the auction that it runs at 2.17 Gig which I believe must make it a thoroughbred.
    Anyone disagree?

    the 2700+ iirc is one of the few chips that are available as both barton and thoroughbred....the barton however is very rare.

    I might be wrong though so I will leave it to someone who knows what they are talkin about to clear this up

    I'm positive that the 2.17Gig chip is a thoroughbred, after all a 3200+ Barton is 2.2Gig.
    I just need a clever bod to confirm it.

    The 2700 is a Thoroughbred B core (13x333fsb) chip & to my knowledge was never a Barton (tho I may be wrong). The 2600 & 2800's did however appear in both guises iirc.

    2700+ barton 2.17GHz processor does seem to be available from certain retailers. Very rare but possible it seems.

    I've seen it on some URLs too but i reckon its a misprint/scam. The PR should be at least 3000+ if that was the case.

    misprint/scam? I saw it on about 10 different retailers. That's a big misprint.

    The 2700+ comes as 2 different cores Thoroughbred B and Barton, but I believe they run at 166mhz.

    The barton has 54.3 Transistors and the Thoroughbred B has 37.5, so the barton will run at 1.80Ghz native at a 11x multiplier.

    I think the Thoroughbred B does as well, but the Bartons (early ones) can run at a higher multiplier as they are unlocked.

    12x166=1.99Ghz
    12.5x166=2.08Ghz
    13x166=2.16Ghz

    Sounds like he overclocked it as they are both 166FSB chips. 3000+ can be 166FSB and 200FSB parts and 3200+ are 200FSB parts only.

    Get the chip code of the chip die and it will tell you the speed.

    the 2800+ has a higher stock fsb iirc, 2700 barton does not, the extra fsb is why the 2800+ is not as fast in mhz, as one would normally expect.

    That can't be right, i know there is a 2800+ 400FSB out now but it is only 2Gig (200*10)
    as opposed to the 166 version - 1992Meg(166*12)
    Doesn't answer the question

    No, no, no. All of those talking about a Barton 2700 should do your research before spouting off. There is no such thing as a 2700 Barton. A Barton running at 2.17 on a 166fsb is a 3000. A Tbred running at the same speed is a 2700.

    Anyone describing a 2700 as a Barton is just wrong. Here is the AMD datasheet for the Barton; you'll notice there's no listing for the 2700:
