Corsair XMS3500 V1.1 - safe volts

Just a quick question:

I've got a stick of 512Mb Corsair XMS3500 ram, to get it running Prime95 stable @ 6,2,2,2 I need to pump 3V through it (Abit NF7-S V2.0), otherwise it has to be run at default 7,3,3,2 @ 2.7v (works out 2.8v) (as recommended in instructions).

Is 3v safe for this RAM?

You'll probably be permanently damaging it - although it'll work at that voltage alright.

Are you on an NForce2 system or Intel (or other, lol)?

My specs are:

XP2500+ @ 2.03GHz : 512Mb Corsair XMS PC3500 @ 408DDR : Abit NF7-S : Lian-Li 6083A : Abit Siluro 128Mb Geforce4 Ti4200 (301/550) : Maxtor SATA 160GB : CDRW :


The NF7-S (my one anyway) overvolts by 0.1 on the ram on all the settings.

I've just taken it down to 2.8 (really 2.9) and leaving it to prime that. So 3v isn't a good idea then?

Thats pretty crud timings for that ram you got.

I can run my 2 x 256Mb Corsair XMS3500 at 5-2-2-2 @ 2.7v at 210Mhz with ease, and you've got them at 204Mhz and its struggling.................

i run my XM3500 (they are all BH5) at 236fsb @ 3.2V with 2-2-2-6 24/7.

3v is not a dangerous voltage, OCZ warranty is up to 3v on their RAM. A dangerous voltage would be 3.8v and any way would Abit have but the option on if it was dangerous? They would be in a lot of poop if they didn't know what they were doing, but they do and decided 3v is safe

DFI is up to 3.2v remember

I have the XMS3200 Plat sticks 2x512 one a version 1.1 and one a version 1.2 and they both run at 2.9 and their spec is 2.6 been like that for a year now and still not a problem from them, check the corsair site they will tell you in the spec sheets what the max is for every stick they make

Cool - I'll give it a look. I tried setting them to 2.9v and that was 2hrs 22mins prime stable, so I'll go and check on the Corsair site if 3v is safe. Cheers for the advice.

I'd run mine @ 3v if only I had the option - for some reason the max on this board is 2.8v :/

BH5/6 ram can take voltages and perform very well at high ones too

You have an NForce2 chipset - set it to 2-2-2-11 and that gives better performance (it equals if you could run the RAM @ around 2-2-2-3 )

2-2-2-12 works better at 220fsb on nf7-s. 2-2-2-11 is better at 200fsb for performance.

BH-5 chips need aditional cooling past 2.9v I have found. I can get 2-2-2-12 225fsb at 2.9v but my mobo is limiting me for further.

BH5 Ram can take up to 3.6volts, when i was running my OCZ at 300fsb with my 2.8 (SL6Z5) i had it at 3.2volts for 3 months without problems.

I'll give setting the timings to 2,2,2,11 or 12 a go - I've had diffiiculty getting past 204FSB, but I think that's to do with my mobo, also my Barton craps out at 2.04GHz regardless.
