OCed GTX 460 1gb vs OCed HD 5850

I have been looking at two factory overclocked cards.

One is a Gainward GS GTX 460, the other is a XFX HD 5850 black edition.

Both are around £135-140 mark (the GTX 460 is a 5er cheaper).

Out of the two which would you go for?

I am tempted by the GTX 460 GS because the cooler is better than the reference one used on the 5850 and quieter and I reckon performance between the two is pretty similarly.

Power consumption isn't a concern either.

    opinions?

    Radeon 5850.

Lower TDP and generally faster all around, even with its gimped Tessellation unit.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Re: OCed GTX 460 1gb vs OCed HD 5850

well tbh I am worried about the tessellation because more games in the future are going to use it so from a future proof point of view might the 460 be better?

Also will the reference cooler on the HD 5850 be quite loud compared to the non reference one on the gainward?

I would wait a few more weeks TBH as the HD6870 1GB is starting to drop in price.

You can already get the HD6870 for under £170 with an aftermarket cooler:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-x...x-mini-dp-hdmi

It has improved tessellation performance compared to an HD5850 1GB and is nearly 10% faster than an HD5850 1GB:

Re: OCed GTX 460 1gb vs OCed HD 5850

problem is though cat, is that i waited weeks for the GTX 560 etc to come out for the price of the HD 5850 and GTX 460 to drop.

Plus £170 quid is just too much for me to spend.

£170 is to much for me too!

I am hoping the cards will be more around the £150 in the next few weeks.

BTW,this GTX460 has a large factory overclock and is under £140:
