Replacing SandyBridge Motherboard
Heyas
I just got my sandy bridge motherboard (and cpu) and Im very happy with it.
Of course the chipset is defective and that means that I will need to have it replaced once the revised chipset arrives. Scan has promised to take care of this so Im not worried about that except for:
I have the "the beast" cooler and that has a small metal plaque that fits under the motherboard so that I can screw it in. Unfortunately I totally forgot that I was going to replace that motherboard in a few months and followed the cooler's instruction and thus I glued that plaque to the motherboard.
Now when I remove the cooler to send the motherboard back what do I do? Rip that plaque out?
What about for the new motherboard? it wont glue properly? should I worry about it? was that glue some kind of thermal paste? will I need to replace it?
The cooler is scan's: Alpenfohn Matterhorn The Beast Cooler for Intel & AMD CPU

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Replacing SandyBridge Motherboard
Probably needs moving to the scan care forum - they'll be able to tell you what to do. I'd suggest that if they're going to bin the old board then removing the plate off the back (forcibly) might be an option unless they can supply you with a spare. Did you need to glue it on (was that the instructions with the cooler?) or did you decide to do it of your own volition?
Re: Replacing SandyBridge Motherboard
It was the instructions. Actually im not sure If i could even fit it without glueing it.
The plate had two adhesives glued to it and i removed their film cover to place it firmly against the backplate of the motherboard cpu holder.
If i didnt glue it the film covers would be pressing against the motherboard...

Re: Replacing SandyBridge Motherboard
Seems reasonable then - ask the mods to move your post to the scan forum and see what's what ;)

Thanks Dangel, I appreciate the support, makes me feel a lot better.
uh? how do I ask a moderator to transfer the thread?
I just wait until someone sees the thread and has it changed?
Or is there a button somewhere Im missing?
