    Recommend a Blu Ray Drive?

    Hi all,

Well now that I have my 1080p monitor I figure a Blu Ray drive should be my next upgrade. I have a few days to mull it over while I wait for a replacement debit card (got drunk and lost mine) so I thought I would solicit your opinions.

I am looking at this one: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/samsu...yer-retail-box

    Any thoughts?

Re: Recommend a Blu Ray Drive?

I was looking at the same one myself a couple of weeks back, for my HTPC. I think specs wise, most are much of a muchness, unless you want higher speed writes etc, but the thing that bothers me is that blue light on the unit. Wondering if that will make it look pig ugly when flashing along...

Re: Recommend a Blu Ray Drive?

I bought the boxed LG drive (it's a bluray writer though) which is quiet and I did not have any problems with it.

Be prepared that the included powerdvd has many issues. that's why I switched to arcsoft's total media theatre.

I cannot comment on the samsung drive as I've not seen any of them in action

That's the one I bought and installed in my rig last week, upgraded the drive's firmware too. I've only watched a couple of films with it so far but haven't had any issues.

As for the light, I'm too engrossed with what's on screen to even notice.
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

0iD: Plus weeing in it every now & again does it good
scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.

Re: Recommend a Blu Ray Drive?

Ok it arrived yesterday and its pretty good. It looks good - no stupid lightscribe logos or other stickers. The mirrored tray looks good and the blue light matches the rest of the system so no problems there. There was some freezing issues but thats because i forgot to update the firmware.

The power DVD software seems OK - it does the job although I don't have much to compare it to - I generally use VLC.

The light doesn't flash that much - certainly not enough for it to have bothered me.

    Thanks for the help guys.
