min ampage on 12v rail for dual mid (6850s say) gfx cards + OCed cpu?

Don't seem to be able to find any concrete information on google on this. I have seen 40 amps posted about on google for a dual HD 6850 system plus overclocked cpu ... this sort of makes sense as 2 HD 6850s probably draw 260watts say 180 watts for OCed cpu that makes 440watts in total. 440w/12v = 36.6a reoccurring. That leaves you with about 3 amps contingency!

What do you think? what is the bare minimum ampage for a mid range xfire setup like 6850s.

    353W with a 980X in furmark...

I think 45A would be the minimum I'd feel safe using...

Although I'd probably go for 650W~50A. PSUs generally tend to run most efficiently when they are at half their maximum rating.

I would say 50A to be safe, taking into consideration ageing and effeciency, but if you're not doing anything like folding then 40-45 may be fine.

Something like the Corsair TX 650 or Antec True power 650 would be ideal if you are looking for a new one.

    Any decent 600-650w should do
