New Wireless Router Needed; Needs to be Wireless N, needs to be STABLE
So for the last year I've been putting up with a router that drops its connection intermittently - these last few days it's become more like a drop every 2 hours though, and it's quickly getting more and more often. Time for a new router... luckily for me, I'm not the one paying for it (though I have to convince the paying person to stretch to whatever sum is needed).
Basically, I want a Wireless N Router that is stable as a rock and isn't going to die on me - Ican handle restarting it every few months, but I really do want to just be able to say goodbye to random disconnects XP
I've heard good things about the DLink DIR-655 Xtreme 802.11N - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/dlink...140-usb-dongle
Anybody got any experience with rock solid wireless routers? Preferrably under about £85, and preferrably can handle a full house (4 of us) of gamers playing on PCs, Xbox's, PS3s while 2 of use are watching videos, downloading files etc and not suddenly decide to shut down :juggle:

i have the netgear wndr3700 v1, latest firmwares great and it has QOS so you can set the port/mac's or lan socket prioritys

Certainly looks like a great router - wee bit pricey though so if I can I'd like to try and shoot for something a little lower. Thanks for the very quick response!
Re: New Wireless Router Needed; Needs to be Wireless N, needs to be STABLE
I have DIR655 and very happy with it. Extremely configurable but I cannot comment on how it would cope with your anticipated load other than to say that it has QOS which seems to work OK and mine has been running for years.
Re: New Wireless Router Needed; Needs to be Wireless N, needs to be STABLE
Just to clarify, that load is probably an exaggeration - I don't think we'd ever all be playing while people are downloading and watchign videos etc, but it would be very nice to have a router solid enough that that kind of thing theoretically wouldn't be a problem... I have heard that the DIR655 is a great router. Just need a little more confirmation and I'll pick it up :)

I would vote against the Belkin router range of products. The router I had from them was useless. Constant drops. Poor ranges, software crashes (the connection would remain up, so I could use the internet, but DNS would be unavailable (some of my stuff doesn't need DNS), http service would crash (no response to http://192.x.x.x/ for administration) and redirection/nat would fail too).
Also, proved to be incompatible with other belkin devices. Could have been fixed by a relatively easy firmware upgrade, but Belkin UK rep stated that although they knew of the incompatability, they were not interested in fixing it.

I can't believe that I didn't mention that my current router is a Belkin. And what a pile of rubbish it is... ANywya, I'm thinking I'm gonna go with the DIR-655. Ordering in 10 mins, along with my new PC...
Thanks all :)
