SATA III drive in a SATA II motherboard?
I'm thinking of buying a SATA III SSD, but at the moment I only have SATA II sockets on my motherboard (upgrade planned for later this year). Would this configuration work, albeit bottlenecked, in the interim? I know that a SATA II drive will work in a a SATA III socket, but not sure about the other way around.
Thanks!
Re: SATA III drive in a SATA II motherboard?
Should work fine, but as you say bottlenecked.
Re: SATA III drive in a SATA II motherboard?
If you can call 250MB/s transfers & 50k random IOPS a bottleneck... :O_o1: ;)
Re: SATA III drive in a SATA II motherboard?
Well I was half eyeing up the new intel SSD drives with over 400Mb/s transfer rates...
:)

Doubt you will actually notice the difference in anything other than benchmarks
