    OC assistance please...

    Hi guys,

I've decided to take the plunge and have just applied a mild overclock to my i5-760 (rest of specs in profile) by increasing the BLCK to 150, giving me a CPU frequency of 3.15Ghz.
I chose this after reading an article on Toms that said this is the 'efficiency sweet spot' for this chip. I have left the other chip functions enabled as I would rather have the benefit of the turbo and speedstep when I need it rather than sucking down ass loads of power when I am just surfing the web.

So this should give me a max turbo boost frequency of 3.75Ghz without an increase in voltage (I hope). The toms article indicated this was about the max you can get away with without a v increase. Here is the article:

    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...cy,2500-3.html

Anyhoo I have been running prime 95 for about 60mins now with no problems and both Real Temp and Speedfan are telling me my CPU temp is holding at about 55 degrees Celsius. Does this sound OK?
Also how long should I run prime95 to be sure its stable and are there any other tests you would recommend I carry out?

    Thanks in advance

UPDATE: Turbo boost only seems to be increasing by one step even when only one core is in use. After running the Real Temp XS test it only increased to 3.3 (multi x22). I ran prime95 on one thread too and got the same result. I went back into the bios and the turbo boost function was on. What I am doing wrong?

    Re: OC assistance please...

Yeah, that's a great temp in my view.

Scan run Prime95 for 24 hours IIRC, which is the typical definition of "stable". Personally, I've always found it fails within 10-20 minutes for a bad overclock, so I've never bothered going beyond 1 hour.

    Thanks Jim,

Do you have any advice on the turbo not increasing above x22 multi when its only using one or two threads?

Its probably something really dumb but I'm an OC'ing newbie so I'm at a loss here

Turbo checks a number of requirements - power usage, temperatures etc. For your particular chip it's most likely that when overclocking you'll get less multi increase on turbo than you would without overclocking. It's quite normal, and you're not doing anything wrong, just allowing the chip to work within it's limits which is good.
