watercooling results

I managed to assemble my shiny new watercooling, so thanks to everyone who helped picking up the components and gave advices :)


The temps are better than anticipated.

The CPU now idles at 27C and goes up to 34C under prime95 :D

as a comparison, an H50 (I know, I know it's not comparable because of the price) on a slower clocked, 965BE (CnQ enabled) manages to do 33/55 and my previous V8 done 34 - 59C :O

The GPUs became much cooler too. with 32C idle and 50C load I cannot really complain :woowoo:
(stock cooler: 65C idle - 91C load)

I decided to go with the 120mm rad for the CPU loop as going for a bigger rad didn't make any noticeable difference and I've used the jet plate which provides the highest flow.

I'll post some pics and the detailed price breakdown tomorrow if anyone interested

Sounds incredible. Good job, can't wait to see the full breakdown etc. I'll probably consider a watercooled system if I ever get around to building my dream beast machine, even if it costs a couple of hundred to get it sorted ;P

I was lucky to have 4 scythe fans, that would have upped the price by £45 If I had to buy them.

Crossfire (and folding with ATI cards at all) isn't worth it until the v7 of the client comes out, so we won't go there.

You don't need any account - just input a name and a team name in the configuration.

You could just download the CPU SMP client (http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandeg...-win32-SMP.exe), get a passkey (http://folding.stanford.edu/English/FAQ-passkey), install the client (http://folding.stanford.edu/English/WinSMPGuide) and let it run (note that the client needs the -smp argument to utilise all cores).

It may sound difficult but really it isn't :) If you decide to take it up, ask for everything in the distributed computing forum, we're a nice bunch.

£500 on cooling? Beastly. No wonder it stays so cool o_O
