1155 h67/p67 and proccesser choises seems abit of a scam

Personally I don't think I need anything more than 'lite' cheapest versions I don't run SLI or need tons of sata/usb ports.
Firstly I was going to get the h67 since I don't have a huge need to overclock as well as a OEM i5-2500 since I have my own cooler and trust the warranty but the OEM 1155 processers seem limited to the "K unlocked" versions so of course I feel like I may as well splash out on a p67 to make use of the unlocked CPU.
So I'm spending more than I need to on either a retail or K CPU then again on the mobo.

    Gigabyte GA-H67M-D2-B3 = £76.40
    Intel BOXDP67DEB3 P67 = £92.38

But these intel boards don't seem to be very popular which puts me off.
Think I might go with the cheapest h67 board and just pay the extra for the K version of i5-2500 even though I'll never be able to use it.

Anyone else in the same position? and am i making the right decision?

Personally.. I'd go with AMD at that sort of price range. Better value for money, more bang for your buck, more holla for your dolla etc etc

It is of course up to you, but an AMD Phenom II 955BE that performs almost as good as an i5 costs £100, and the motherboard to make it very stable at a 3.6ghz overclock is around £80 (with all the sata 6 usb 3 yadda yadda)...

Of course, if you definitely insist on going Intel then you are gonna end up paying more... but the performance is slightly better

I can understand your dilema, i think Intel has made some poor decisions of this type with the Sandy Bridge generation.
As for what you should buy, can I ask what the purpose of the PC should be?
And as for the whole overclocking thing, are you considering it because its a way of getting better value, or do you have a strong desire to constantly fiddle with settings etc? (thats not a criticism by the way, its something i'm guilty of).

I'm after a high performance but quiet build, I can make do with stock speeds.

I think you'll find intel has now made itself a nice little monopoly and is now milking it for all it's worth.
