First build for Step-Son

He likes to play games, and surf the web. How low can we go ?

I was thinking about £450-500 for some sort of Athlon X3 build with 4Gb Ram and a 5870 or similar. I'd really appreciate the help on a budget build. (He's saved about £250 so far, and his birthday is coming up so he's most of the way there)
