Recommend a low power Modular ATX PSU?

    Hi,

Putting together a HTPC system and need some suggestions on PSU's. The case I have in mind will fit ATX PSU's though the smaller the better (case clearence in the Silverstone GD05 is not the greatest).

It also needs to be modular and a reasonable cost. Its shouldn't need to draw more than 300W so that helps a bit.

    Any Recommendations?

    Thanks

Novatech powerstation modular 500w (which is the same as the OCZ psu AFAIK) http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/p...ov-psg500.html

be Quiet straight power modular 480w http://www.scan.co.uk/products/480w-...-189db-eps-12v

Corsair did do an HX450w at one point but is was very short lived which is a shame because it was an excellent psu

This is the cheapest one I can find that's actually in stock at scan (otherwise I'd recommend the Coolermaster Silent Pro or Silverstone above)... if it has to be modular. The modular bit will drive up your prices - I can't find any decent ones at any of my usual go to sites that are any less than 500w, and any less than about £65. If you go non-modular, you can drive that down to about £40 - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/380w-...fan-atx12v-v23.

I don't know enough about the reliability of Powercool or OCZ to be able to give a recommendation on those

Re: Recommend a low power Modular ATX PSU?

the OCZ units are ok not top end but decent, personally speaking I'd not go near powercool with a barge poll, I cannot even find a website for them.

I'll admit the novatech one is a bit of an unknown but I'd say worth the risk and an HTPC shouldn't overload it
EDIT: I don't think I'd trust the basic novatech psu's though.

Re: Recommend a low power Modular ATX PSU?

Thanks, you lot don't hang about do you?

Yeah, kinda suspisious about the powercooler ones, they seem a bit too cheap? Anyone using one for an length of time to comment?

Has to be modular, the case has a real problem with stowing cables and I dont want to restrict airflow any more than I have to....

I had the same problem, doesn't seem to be much below 500W..... not sure why, can't be that much more to make a modular PSU surely?

That Silverstone one looks interesting as it seems to be smaller that the others by 20mm, but that and the coolermaster seem to be out of stock

    Thanks for the suggestions

Other option is modding get a non modular psu and customise the cables to fit.

You could go for the next one up - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/600w-...oogle+shopping

    Bit more expensive though...
