I got one, laughed at how amazing the space I had was and filled it up within days because I wasn't being careful anymore ("I'll NEVER fill 1tb!!!"). Get two.

Of course! The OEM just doesn't have a fancy box. It comes in a clear plastic box with 4 screws. I've bought 4 of them, They are nice drives and Scan certainly pack them well.

    Re: 1xSSD or 2xSSD

Right just rang up Scan to change my orders:

From: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB Hard Drive Sata III
To: 1TB Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3 (Be used for applications, games, junk, music etc)

From: 80GB OCZ Technology Vertex 2
To: 100GB OCZ Technology Vertex 2 (Be used for main applications, few games and OS)

I also added a cheeky keyboard: Razer Lycosa Black Gaming Keyboard

Thanks for all of your help, rounds on me ;D

it all really does depend on your budget. One is prob quite sufficient (depending on how much data/programs/etc you have - 1TB will take me some time to fill)

2 in RAID - well that'll be something but if you're running from SSD system drive it will only help when you run games and load programs off the HDD array. it will be faster, but you can live without it. Money no object, why not?

sorry just seen this. Vertex 3 is the next generation SATA III (6Gb/s) SSD drive from OCZ, and unlike HDD, these will benefit from SATA III. Reviews here:

Just seen that you've already ordered them - don't worry about the next generation, the vertex 2 is still uber quick.

    Re: 1xSSD or 2xSSD

It's really not going to make a difference. Hard drive to SSD is night and day, Vertex 2 to Vertex 3 is negligible in day to day usage.

    Wouldn't worry about it.

When you talk about RAID, what do you mean? Is it worth having or not?

If not I think I'm just gunna plug them in and just install my OS on my SSD along with afew games and apps, whilst my HDD be used for other apps and junk.

is a super charger worth having on a car that already has a turbo charger installed?

RAID stands for redudant array of independent discs. It's when you use multiple HDD in a structure that the OS recognises as just one drive. There are different configurations for this.

RAID0 (striped) information is read/written from/to 2 different HDD simultaneously, with different chunks of info going to each disk. As each HDD stores less info in total, the overall time to read/write the data is quicker. If one disk breaks though, the remaining data is useless.

RAID1 (mirror) the same data is stored on both disks. Redundancy achieved, but this is no quicker than only using one HDD - just it makes it less likely you'll lose data through HDD failure since a copy exists. (If the controller is good it might improve read times but don't quote me on that, that is purely speculation on my part and it would depend on the HDD data being read from different points on the 2 disks simultaneously - not sure if any actually do this)

Then there are combos of these

RAID10 and RAID01 which both stripe and mirror

There are others too, RAID2-6 which do something to do with ensuring data integrity though I can't recall what or how (something to do with how many drives can fail without loss of data to the user), and of which only RAID5 seems to make it onto consumer motherboard controllers,

then there's JBOD - just a bunch of disks -which is where the individual disks are accessed independently (not really sure how this differs from a standard multi-drive set up)

You'll either need a MOBO that supports RAID and has the controllers built in, or else buy a RAID controller PCIe card.

just went to look up what RAID5 actually is - the wiki page on this is amazingly detailed. I went cross eyed after the first couple of paragraphs, but it explains it better than my paltry attempt above...

    Re: 1xSSD or 2xSSD

Total waste of time for a desktop hard drive.

Server storage has its applications, very specific tasks that require really high sequential read/writes but apart from that it's not worth the hassle.
