EPSON RX590 error: A printer error has occurred

Recently, I received an error message on my EPSON RX 590 printer which reads:

    Error
A printer error has occurred. See your documentation.

I cannot remove this message. I cannot "reset" the printer in any way. What does this message mean? Is there anything I can do to get the printer working again?

Because I know what they're going to say: "Take it in for repair!"

Anyway, you guys here are the experts. But I'll take your advice and let you know if they reply.

    Cheers

Re: EPSON RX590 error: A printer error has occurred

Ok, I got a quick reply from Epson support:

"I would suggest you power off the product and remove the power and data cable for at least a minute, lift the lid to check for any foreign objects, remove any paper or other items that should not be there. If the error remains it indicates a hardware fault within the product and it will require a repair."

So, pretty much what I expected from them, but was hoping there would be a solution to this problem before I decide to bin it

Out of warranty - it's between 3 to 4 years old, but it didn't get a great deal of use - just the occasional print now and then...

its either broken of the ink waste pads are full, not sure if the free ssc utility will reset it.

4 years old means its not worth resetting the pad timer unless you want ink all over your desk, the price of the parts to fix it will cost more than replacing it.

Re: EPSON RX590 error: A printer error has occurred

The ink pads are nowhere near full. I can see them. There is not much ink on them. This printer hasn't had much use in the few years I've had it.

I had already tried that SSC utility. My printer isn't supported. My chips are not supported either (they are T0821 through to T0826). Even when I tried using it and selecting "Unsupported model" and "Unsupported chip", or no matter what I select or press, it comes up with an error:

    X Priviliged instruction

you can see the top of the ink pads

what you cant see are the layers beneeth that may well be full of ink m8.

either way there is nothing you can do now. it may not be the ink pads, even when full they look fine until you dig in and remove them. probably the capping unit failing to lock, mainboard failiure, cr motor borked, encoder strip fault. lots to go on, nothing you can do yourself without parts and diagnostics that only run on the laptop if it has the epson key installed

Re: EPSON RX590 error: A printer error has occurred

As I said earlier, it's hardly been used, so it seems unlikely the inkpads are full.

I checked the level of the inkpads with 2 more programs, but I won't mention them here as I don't know if they are freeware or pirate programs. One of them shows the level as extremely low - way too low for them to be considered full. The other tells me I don't need to reset the ink pad counter because the parts inside "are not currently at their end-of-life state."

So what do you think? New printer hey? Ok, I might need to save up for a new one soon.

Would the Epson TX650 be considered the replacement for this one? Pretty similar features I think. I just hope I can still print all the artwork I saved with the RX590. I hope the TX650 software will still open the old Epson artwork.
