Need help finding a laptop
Ok what I'm looking for here is a smaller laptop with a higher resolution screen
Requirements
smaller than 15" screen (portability is a must)
Better than 1366x768 resolution, don't care so much about IPS vs TN or ratio, basically want more vertical pixels than 768
Windows 7 Pro, xp downgrade helpful because as of now it will need xp pro on it.
Dual core cpu ideally 2ghz or better, dual core atoms don't cut it (well the 330 didn't) I'm tthinking an i3 atm, but not adversed to AMD athlonsII or phenomII or even pentiums or C2D
2-3gb ram, don't need 4+
3year warranty will be needed (this is for work so lower cost educational warranties are available)
no real preference with brand
total inc warranty about £800 max less is better
Misco is prefered seller, but model & make to chase and I can work from there.
I've been looking at the following so far, although they are all 1366x768 :(
Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 11 Notebook PC http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/...522959&CatId=0
or edge 13 version
http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/...522963&CatId=0
Not sure if the i3-380UM 1.33GHz is going to be good enough?
HP ProBook 5320m http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/...Tab=2&NoMapp=0
Looks ideal just want a version with a higher res screen.
Toshiba Satellite Pro L630-167 Notebook PC
http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/...518203&CatId=0
Again looks good just need a better res
SAMSUNG Q330-JA08UK, Core i3-380M 2.53GHz, Windows
http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/...513785&CatId=0
Same again, I know some of the smaller samsung's are very good.
Re: Need help finding a laptop
The Toshiba R630 and R700 would have been worth considering but don't have the resolution you want. They are very well built and even with a battery are not too heavy.

This looks to be a good deal: it's 1366 x 768 but thought I'd throw it out there for value for money. Under £400 with the offer code.
Re: Need help finding a laptop
Ahh just spotted that on the lenovo edge there's no optical drive, however I don't think the cpu will cut it as one of the things this laptop will be used for is CAD work
annoyingly I just spotted the Fujitsu Lifebook p701 http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/...532865&CatId=0 looks ideal if a bit pricey, 1280x800 screen but again no optical drive
Toshiba would be a better bet and just realised it's a touch screen, oooooo fancy
Total side note I just spotted a Hannspree 12" screen, not what I'm looking for but at £312 that's a nice cheap alternative to a netbook http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/...500453&CatId=0
Have a few of the Hannspree monitors at work (they actually manufacture lcd panels) and I've been impressed with the quality.
