Overclocking ram and P4

Hey guys i have an

Abit Max 3 Mobo
3.0 800fsb P4
1Gig pc4000 corsair pro (2 x 512mb stciks) dual ddr
Etc etc etc lol

Now what iw ant to knwo is is there anyway i can overclock the ram to its ddr 500 speeds without having to overclock the processer. i have it sitting at 230fsb now with the ratio at 1:1 but i dont think i will reach 250fsb. i have a watercooler installed. but i aint a guru at overclocking. so if anyone has any suggestions on what i should do or even how to overclock liek weblinks etc it would be gr8. i want to get the full potential out of my pc as everyone does. i have my asus 9800XT at 470 core at the min which also is watercooled.

correct me if i'm wrong but i think P4 mobo doesn't usually let the RAM freq faster than the FSB..the other way around is normally supported as in 5:4 ratio (FSB:RAM)..if this is true u cant possibly get DDR500 speed without hitting 250MH FSB (1:1 ratio)..check ur mobo manual or bios if 4:5 or even better 5:6 ratio r supported..awesome system u have there btw

From my (vague) experiences with overclocking.....the ram and CPU run the same FSB. So, if you wanted say, 250FSB on your RAM, you'd need your CPU to be at 250FSB also.... i think. Dont think there is any other why around it tbh

If that is true can anyone give me some tips on trying to reach the 250 fsb mark? i have watercooling etc and gd power supply and quality ram. or as close to as possible without wrecking it

hmm lets see..ur mobo n RAM should be capable of 250fsb..that leaves us to ur cpu.. in order to reach 250fsb ur cpu will need to be running at 3.75 GHz..well that's quite pushing the limit of P4 core..u might try overvolting the cpu a bit..i dont recommend too much overvoltage for P4..i've heard too many horror stories about P4 died due to overvolting..try increasing the fsb as high as possible with default voltage first..then start increasing the vcore n see if it helps getting higher speed..then start increasing the fsb again..repeat the steps until u can't do anything to make it boot at higher speed n test the stability at that speed..i think 240 fsb ie 3.6GHz is not out of reach..good luck to u

oh i forgot..most high speed overclocking RAM as urs have higher memory voltage than mobo default..check corsair website for this info n make sure the correct memory voltage is set in ur BIOS..happy tweaking
