I don't understand the point?

The high level of transparency means it doesn't need a backlight, according to the article and press release. Given that the backlight is one of the biggest power suckers in a laptop after the CPU, it should allow for longer battery life and smaller bezels.
Or, you know, since you can see through it you could pretend you were looking through a star wars-type holographic projection for the pure coolness?
also doesn't that mean that other people can see your screen? It will be backwards I know but I wouldn't want to be looking at my bank details.

I can see the use in adding screens to things that would normally be plain glass; I heard you like windows so I.. well you get it, but for actual computers and laptops, not convinced, total gimmick in that area IMO.
One would assume that if the technology *can* be viewed from reflected ambient light *and* it makes its way into mainstream laptops, it will do so with some kind of electroluminescent panel (as used by oliverw92 in this mod) so it can be optionally backlight for nighttime use...
c'mon, Minority Report never raised these questions while you were watching it, did it? Or any of the countless scifi movies with transparent display panels. Or what about transparent HUDs?
lol
One can never stop saying Thank You
I remember seeing a prototype a year or two ago (on BBC Click?) for a flexible display - you couldn't fold it, but it could be bent into a U or S shape. I thought it was probably the most incredible technology to have zero practical applications.
Probably why I haven't heard of it since.
This new Samsung screen does have some practical value (as well as being "green" presumably), and more importantly would be ultra-cool. I want one.
